This role will provide inclusion support to an easy going 27 year old young man with Autism and Aquired Brain Injury due to substance abuse who presents with significant executive dysfunction/ memory impairment.
As an Inclusion support Worker, you will be responsible forproviding cueing, directions, teaching life skills at the same time as providing supervision to ensure his safety and provide companionship.
Your duties will include:
- Supervising taking medications as prescribed by healthcare professionals
- Providing support and supervision, some hands on assistance with home care services to assist individual with perfoming his daily living activities such as:
morning personal hygiene, cueing to was hands after toileting, wearing seasonally appropriate, clean clothing, assistance with meal planning, preparation and nutrition education, facitating and supporting physical exercise, assistance with light housekeeping, cleaning his bedroom, bathroom and living spaces, washing and folding his laundry, cleaning litterboxes and cueing to was hands after performing this task.
- Duties will include breaking down every single basic task into one step at a time directions to support client to relearn how to perform basic life skills such a making a sandwich. Client is unable to perform two step directions.
- Facilitate outings and providing supervision during recreation such as swimming, movies, community events, library, going for coffee, ice cream, slurpee etc
- Running simple errands with client such as getting a haircut, picking up prescriptions, picking up an item from the store
- providing supervision and support for client to perform volunteer activities at local organizations
- Providing companionship for client areas of interest such as caring for his 2 cats, playing cards, video games and baking.
- Maintaining a clean and safe environment for the client
- Supporting the client with ongoing substance free lifestyle choices and maintaining a sober lifestyle

To excel in this role, you should possess the following skills:
- Patience and ability to remain flexible, open minded, compassionate and non judgemental
- Ability to create visual cues and aids to support task lists, break even simple tasks into one step at a time directions
- Experience in home care or a similar caregiving role
- Knowledge of Autism, executive functions necessary for everyday life, memory impairment, mental illness, substance abuse, Aquired Brain Injury preferred but willing to train
- Strong patient care skills with a focus on empathy and respect
- Knowledge of parenting skills for children with ADHD, setting limits using choice, alternatives to power struggling with inflexible thinkers an asset
- Knowledge and experience in providing supported decision making an asset
- Ability to maintain cleanliness and organization in the caregiving environment
- knowledge of cross contamination, kitchen safety
- Understanding of dietary needs/ food aversions common in Autistic individuals an asset
- Understanding and knowledge of substance abuse
- knowledge of smoking cessation techniques, alternative coping strategies to support harm reduction and vaping reduction an asset.
- knowledge of healthy sleep hygiene practices to promote good mental health and well being an asset
- Must posess a valid class 5 drivers license, maintain proper vehicle nsurance and registration and use of personal vehicle may be required.
- Must provide up to date criminal records check with vulnerable sector search.
