**Job description: Intake Specialist (International relevant healthcare, nurse, Doctor, Medical Professional)**Position Summary The Intake & Medical Professional plays a key role in both the clinical and peer support sides of NAM’s programs. This position combines medical assessment, intake coordination, and client recovery support for individuals entering or engaged in NAM’s residential, outpatient, and intensive programs.You will be the first point of contact for many clients — conducting comprehensive assessments, overseeing detox and recovery planning, facilitating groups, and providing hands-on support to help clients stabilize and thrive in their healing journey.Most work hours are during the daytime, with Some weekend /Regular SundaysImportant Instructions for Applicants:

1. Intake & Assessment
- Conduct comprehensive **medical, psychosocial, and risk assessments** for incoming clients.
- Gather information on substance use history, mental health, trauma, housing, and supports.
- Determine **eligibility and appropriate level of care** with clinical leadership.
- Communicate with referral sources (detox, hospitals, shelters, community partners).
- Complete all intake documentation in compliance with confidentiality standards.
2. Clinical & Medical Support
- Review and update **medical charts, medication lists, and lab requests**.
- Assist with monitoring client health and coordinate care with physicians or clinical staff.
- Provide health education, harm reduction guidance, and safety checks for clients.
3. Recovery & Peer Support
- Build strong, trusting relationships with clients through empathy and lived understanding of recovery.
- Provide **daily support, motivation, and guidance** within residential or community settings.
- Facilitate or co-facilitate **group sessions**, workshops, and wellness activities.
- Advocate for client needs and collaborate with the care team to build individualized recovery plans.
4. Admissions & Onboarding
- Guide clients and families through move-in and orientation processes.
- Explain house guidelines, routines, and program expectations with clarity and compassion.
- Support new residents as they settle in and begin their care journey.
5. Coordination & Transportation
- Coordinate with **detox and hospital partners** for seamless admissions or discharges.
- Provide or schedule transportation for client appointments, detox transfers, and pharmacy visits.
- Ensure all logistics are handled with professionalism, discretion, and care.
6. Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with the interdisciplinary team including physicians, social workers, and peer supports.
- Attend case conferences, treatment planning sessions, and staff meetings.
- Share updates respectfully and maintain confidentiality at all times.
Qualifications & Skills

- Lived experience in recovery or strong understanding of recovery principles _(asset)_.
- Experience in **addiction, mental health, or trauma-informed care**.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Proficiency in documentation and case management systems.
- **Valid Driver’s Licence and reliable vehicle** _(required)_.
- **Fluency in Punjabi** _(required)_; additional languages are an asset.
- Compassion, cultural sensitivity, and ability to maintain professional boundaries.
Work Conditions

- Experience or education in addiction, mental health, or peer support _(asset)_
- Understanding of trauma-informed and culturally competent care _(asset)_
- **First Aid & CPR Certification.**:
- Training or strong skills in critical incident and crisis management.
- Ability to handle high-stress, emotionally intense situations.
- **Strong documentation and communication skills (verbal and written).**:
- Computer literacy, particularly with electronic medical record systems.
- Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple responsibilities.
