Reporting to the Production Manager the **Shop Supervisor (day & evening shifts)** is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of production activities in the fabrication shop, ensuring the efficient, safe, and high-quality fabrication of reinforcing steel or metal products. This role supports scheduling, team leadership, material handling, quality control, and safety enforcement in accordance with industry standards and company procedures.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate daily production activities, including cutting, bending, welding, and assembly of reinforcing steel and/or structural metal components.
- Monitor employee performance, provide direction, support training, and enforce discipline when necessary.
- Ensure production meets job specifications, quality standards, and project deadlines.
- Conduct daily toolbox talks and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations (OHSA, WHMIS).
- Liaise with engineering/drafting, logistics, and project management to resolve fabrication issues or schedule conflicts.
- Coordinate material flow, inventory checks, and ensure that raw materials and consumables are stocked.
- Conduct inspections and work closely with the QA/QC team to ensure accuracy and compliance with client and regulatory standards.
- Operate within lean manufacturing principles to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
- Promote teamwork, safety culture, and continuous improvement initiatives across the shop floor.
- Complete shift reports, incident documentation, and timekeeping as required.
**What we are looking for**:
- Availability to work on the day and evening shift.
- 3-5 years of experience in steel fabrication, rebar manufacturing, or a related industry.
- +3 years experience as a supervisor in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Strong knowledge of fabrication processes: cutting, bending, welding, rigging, material handling, etc.
- Solid understanding of workplace safety regulations (OHSA, WHMIS, CSA standards).
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Basic computer proficiency (Excel, ERP systems, production software).
- Valid forklift certification and/or crane experience is an asset.
