South Surrey Smiles looking for a passionate and energetic Orthodontic Assistant to join our well-established practice in Surrey, British Columbia. This position will be for a maternity leave coverage with a strong potential to continue as our business is growing.

**About the role**:
The Orthodontic Assistant plays a critical role within our practice. You will be responsible for the delivery of direct patient care working independently as well as assisting the Orthodontist. This includes the direct bonding of fixed orthodontic appliances, attachment placement and delivery of orthodontic aligners, the adjustment of removable appliances, record taking, treatment documentation, sterilization procedures, patient education, and other miscellaneous and administrative duties.

**What you will be doing - key responsibilities**:
- Prepare patients for treatment by welcoming, comforting, seating, and draping patient.
- Build positive relationships with patients, families, and coworkers to ensure the targeted outcome treatment remains on schedule.
- Assist Orthodontist with consultations and all stages of orthodontic procedures.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene.
- Provide patient instruction/education.
- Provide reports to parents/guardians.
- Enter detailed chart/record notations in the practice management system.
- Placing and removing wires.
- Fitting orthodontic appliances.
- Clean/disinfect operatories and sterilize instruments and devices.
- Set up trays and prepare brackets for bonding.
- Unload and store new supplies.
- Take x-rays, photos, and impressions
- both traditional and digital.
- Pouring and trimming study models.
- Maintain patient confidence.
- Maintain clean and safe working environment.
- Protect patient and employees by adhering to infection control policies and protocol.
- Great teamwork with all team members is expected.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Doctor, Clinical Lead, and Practice Manager.

**What you bring - qualifications**:
- Certified Orthodontic Assistant
- Completion of Orthodontics Module
- 4+ years’ experience in an orthodontic specialty office
- Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills, verbal and written, with a proven ability to build strong relationships to build positive rapport with patients, parents, doctors, fellow team members and community
- Strong conflict resolution, problem solving and decision-making skills
- Keen attention-to-detail and time management
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite; proficiency with dental software systems is an asset to complete tasks such as data entry, patient tracking and imaging
