The team

Embedded within the Library Learning Services department, the _Digital Media Experience (DME) Lab_ is a collaborative workspace that supports TMU Libraries users as they access, learn, and create using new and emerging technologies. With support from student staff advisors, the DME Lab offers TMU staff and students a hands-on learning space focused on digital content creation.

The opportunity
- Operates and maintains digital makerspace equipment and media authoring facilities in support of the TMU Libraries Digital Media Experience Lab, and ensures their efficient and safe operation.
- Facilitates the setting up for classes, workshops, and installations.
- Provides technical and organizational assistance and advice to faculty, staff and students during production work, both curricular and co-curricular. Demonstrates the proper and safe use of equipment and facilities.
- Provides training on the technical and operational use of equipment and software in support of TMU Libraries activities.
- Assists in the organization and production of special events and co-curricular initiatives.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provides technical user support and administers training.
- Facilitates the set up and use of the different workstations and facilities used by the DME lab users
- Maintains business-critical databases (File repositories, websites, checkout systems, Learning Management Systems), creates and updates training content.
- Organizes and maintains DME equipment and facilities.
- Coordinates booking of DME facilities and equipment for all approved users.
- Provides project support for DME initiatives and projects.
- Assists the DME Manager with assigning and coordinating the work of part-time student staff.

**Qualifications**:

Minimum level of education and specialty/discipline required
- Completion of a post-secondary diploma program in New Media or related field.

Minimum number of years and type/area of experience required given minimum education requirement
- Minimum of 2 years of broad experience in more than one discipline within the New Media industry.
- Experience working with digital media authoring hardware and software (Adobe CC preferred), entry-level fabrication equipment (e.g., 3D printers, sewing machines, desktop vinyl cutters,etc), installations and projects.
- Experience working safely in a workshop environment, using various materials for fabrication, operating power tools and machines including but not limited to 3D printing, laser cutters, CNC mills, soldering irons, etc.
- Experience working with electronics and digital systems.
- Experience overseeing Media facilities and large student teams.

Required skills and demonstrated knowledge
- Technical knowledge and skills includes: 2D/3D graphics, web authoring, tangible media authoring, non-linear video editing, audio editing, mobile platforms, digital fabrication (e.g. 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC mills), workshop (e.g. power tools, hand tools), electronics (e.g. arduino, actuators, IoT sensors), coding, and event installations.
- Relevant IT knowledge, especially of TCP/IP networking and Linux systems, to include a wide variety of digital media production workflows, operating systems, and digital fabrication systems.
