**Indigenous Engagement Coordinator**

**Company Background**

Opiikapawiin Services LP (“Opiikapawiin”) was established by a partnership of 24 First Nations in Northwestern Ontario. The 24 First Nations partnership is also majority owner in Wataynikaneyap Power, a transmission company building 1800km of new transmission line to connect remote First Nations to the provincial grid. Opiikapawiin is primarily responsible for administering projects and programs for Wataynikaneyap Power relating to community engagement, community readiness, education & training, business readiness, stakeholder engagement, communications, and capacity building. Opiikapawiin will also support the First Nations partnership in the management of its investment in Wataynikaneyap Power, which includes raising equity for the First Nations interest in the transmission project.

The Indigenous Engagement Coordinator will represent Opiikapawiin Services and Wataynikaneyap Power in a professional manner at all times. The person in this role will work directly with the teams from Opiikapawiin Services and Wataynikaneyap Power PM Inc.

Since Opiikapawiin Services is an organization that provides services in First Nations communities, the ideal applicant will possess a demonstrated knowledge of First Nations protocols, language, and culture.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain data sets, including a database of all Project communications between Indigenous communities and Wataynikaneyap, and Indigenous communities and Wataynikaneyap’s construction contractor
- Track social media for feedback on the project, events, activities and create reports of comments provided by Indigenous communities, community members and stakeholders
- Participate in and support the implementation of a document management system through receiving and systematically logging/filing all documents related to the project
- Accurately summarize engagement activities, concerns and commitments as per regulatory and client requirements
- Ensure our designated project team leads follow up and submit records as required
- Upload all data related to Indigenous community, community member and stakeholder contacts to the tracking database and produce reports in a variety of formats (including Excel and Word), as required to meet regulatory and other Project requirements
- Help to create and manage a system to track, monitor and report on tasks, actions, issues and commitments including monitoring key performance indicators defined in the Environmental Assessment, communications management plan, engagement plans and other Project documents including the construction contractor’s plans
- Support the development of plain-language updates to Project shareholders and community members
- Support the development and implementation of community engagement programs on a variety of topics and issues.
- Support the Community Liaisons in engagement-related tasks including reporting

Other Duties May Include:

- Assist Administrative Coordinator at times of high activity
- Assist in transcribing meeting notes and taking minutes as required
- Assist in developing engagement documentation and reporting to Management or Board of Directors as required
- Other duties to support the team

**Qualifications**

Education & Experience
- Education equivalent to completion of two years of college-level coursework in business or a field related to the work and three years of office administrative, supervisory or lead experience in the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above.

**Required Skills**:

- General computer skills and experience with MS Office suite including Sharepoint.
- Excellent skills with attention to detail and data management using online tools, desktop tools, and other tools to integrate into workflow.
- Administrative office skills. Experience with filing and document control.
- Written and verbal communication skills.
- Problem identification and problem resolution skills.
- Demonstrates a significant ability for discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive issues.
- Demonstrates ability to maintain a fast work pace and team-oriented environment.
- Demonstrates ability to type, copy, distribute, file and retrieve correspondence in an error-free manner.

Other Experience
- Strong understanding of Indigenous culture and protocols in Northwestern Ontario
- Knowledge of the economic, social, and political environment of Northwestern Ontario and/or experience with remote community realities
- The ability to communicate verbally in the Indigenous languages spoken in Northwestern Ontario is not required but considered an asset
- Experience with large datasets and their manipulation
- Valid Class “G” license
