**The City of Brooks’ Recreation Department has an opening for one (1) Casual Labourer.**
This position is responsible for arena operations and maintenance (including custodial duties). The Casual Recreation Labourer participates in all recreation activities within assigned area and is responsible for operating machinery, equipment, and vehicles as assigned.
**ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Works efficiently on an independent basis and with limited supervision;
- Skillfully operates all machinery, equipment and vehicles in the Recreation Operator I classification (excluding the ice maintenance machine) as assigned;
- Ensures that machinery, equipment and vehicles are properly maintained as per department standards;
- Assists the Recreation Foreman in performing all tasks related to the maintenance and repair of facilities;
- Performs all necessary custodial and building maintenance tasks in recreation facilities to approved standards on an assigned shift including parking lot entrance clean-up and snow removal;
- Ensures that all dealings with the public, tenants, customers and other staff are conducted in a courteous and professional manner;
- Provides superior customer service to all patrons of recreation facilities;
- Strives for continuous improvement of job function. Makes recommendations to the Recreation Foreman pertaining to changes in work methods to improve productivity, safety and efficiency;
- Trains to obtain qualifications necessary for advancement and to maintain existing qualifications;
- Ensures that tasks are performed safely and in compliance with applicable legislation, policies and procedures;
- Works shift and weekends as per the operational schedule of the department;
- Responds to trouble and emergency calls during regular, as well as extraordinary hours; and
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:
- 16+;
- No experience necessary;
- Education or experience in arena operations and/or building maintenance is a definite asset;
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and clean driver’s abstract;
- Standard First Aid;
- Fall protection certification is an asset;
- An understanding of operation and maintenance of machinery, general building maintenance and custodial skills;
- Public relations, communications and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to work efficiently on an independent basis and with limited supervision;
- Ability to perform physically strenuous work;
- Ability to plan, prioritize and manage own workload, including the ability to tolerate frequent interruptions and still meet deadlines;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding department and municipal matters;
- Willingness to upgrade qualifications to remain current; and
- Subject to a criminal record check.
