**The opportunity**

MAGMA’s Care for Newcomer Children (CNC) is dedicated to the settlement and development of newcomer children and their families. We promote and value individual cultural identity, while introducing our Canadian culture through our diverse child-centered program. Our goal is to provide our children with a stimulating and motivating environment in which they can enhance all aspects of their development. We encourage our children to learn through play, experience, example and guidance in a safe and loving learning environment.

**Primary duties and responsibilities**
- Follow the CNC Requirements including group ratios
- Prepare the room appropriately before the children arrive
- Monitors entrances and exits at all times
- Accept and supervises children at the scheduled times
- Welcome and interact with newcomer children and their parents
- Check the children for injuries and illness as they arrive
- Develop and implement daily activities that support and promote the development of newcomer children in Combined Care programs
- Prepare the weekly program guide with age appropriate activities for children in accordance with the program philosophy
- Provide activities and experiences that meet the individual developmental needs of the children
- Guide and assist children and families in the development of healthy eating, dressing and toilet habits
- Monitor children’s behaviors and intervenes when necessary
- Assess the skills, abilities, interests and needs of children.
- Discuss children’s progress or concerns with parents and other staff members.
- Place infants on their backs to sleep
- Provide first aid treatment to children when necessary
- Set up equipment and other items used in the program
- Rotate toys to reflect children’s interests and to encourage individual children’s development
- Maintain records, including a daily record, attendance form, child profile, and the infant information sheets.
- Attend meetings and workshops as directed by the manager
- Inspect CNC space for safety issues and seek corrective action according to procedures
- Ensure your room is clean, organized and sanitized
- Ensuring that cleaning products are made before the children arrive and follow CNC guidelines
- Monitoring infants while eating
- properly secure in highchair
- Ability to observe and evaluate children’s development milestones
- Bottle fed infants
- ensuring the bottle is at appropriate temperature and that the child is properly burped afterwards
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-educator

**Physical Requirements**

This job involves working with young children and includes lifting and participating in physical activities. It may also involve the supervision of children and physical activities outdoors in different weather conditions.

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Diploma in Early Childhood education or related field
- Experience in childcare is an asset
- First Aid and CPR training
- Proper Physical and Immunization
- Bilingualism is an asset
- Valid security clearance (Vulnerable Persons check and Social Development Check)
