The FPMI team is a partner to our business, facilitating cross-departmental collaboration (both within and external to finance) on the management of financial processes that are impacted by systems that generate financial data and transactions. This team is solid in evaluating financial processes from the perspective of risk management (including business continuity), data efficiency, and model optimization; and is there to support continuous improvement and change management as data tools and systems evolve and modernize.
The Opportunity
- Evaluate the impact on business processes and roles as a result of new / upgraded systems that impact financial transactions, reporting, and compliance activities. Ensure changes to business processes are understood with consideration of managing financial risk, as well as ensuring processes are designed to optimize the use of available technology, allowing for the utilization of resources and skill sets in an efficient and effective manner.
- In collaboration with the Senior Financial Systems Analyst, lead the identification and prioritization of opportunities to use process/technology as an enabler for streamlining and optimizing the delivery of financial services.
- Partner with internal process owners to continuously update process documentation related to key financial outcomes (including financial reporting and financial systems), as changes evolve throughout the year.
- Facilitate conversations with the business to identify the risks within those processes; analyze the adequacy and effectiveness of the associated internal controls.
- Support the evaluation and prioritization of financial processes for continuous improvement, using frameworks that focus on stakeholder requirements, as well as best practice design that allows for agility and responsiveness in reporting for decision making.
- Identify control deficiencies within financial processes and provide recommendations to strengthen and remedy weaknesses.
- Provide consulting services to internal process owners to identify opportunities to continuously strengthen the internal control environment related to key financial outcomes.
- Key finance partner to the business in understanding drivers and linkages to financial outcomes for the purposes of supporting optimized processes related to financial planning, budgeting, and reporting.
- Provide training and consulting services regarding the WCB’s systems of financial risk management and internal control to staff both within Finance and throughout the organization.
- Prepares training materials, documents, and recordings as it applies to process innovation/optimization.
- Carry out assessments on new/changing processes that impact financial transactions and provide recommendations on the design of effective internal controls.
- Manages the completion of deliverables by engaging with the Financial Services team, leading in the delegation, and monitoring, of assignments based on the appropriate utilization of skill sets.
- Assist the finance management team in projects as assigned.
Your experience and skills
- University degree in business along with a professional accounting designation (CPA).
- 3 to 5 years post designation experience in a financial accounting role focused on financial process consulting, continuous improvement, and financial risk management.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with all levels of staff, management, and external contacts.
- Resourceful and independent, with the ability to work as part of a team.
- Strong client focus with proven skills in effectively influencing and managing change.
- Ability to learn quickly, make sense out of many different sources of information, adapt to new challenges, and utilize strong research and analytical skills.
- Well-developed team management skills, including the ability to prioritize, plan and organize required deliverables and to delegate effectively.
- Strong project management skills.
- Advanced experience in the use of Microsoft Office 365 and automation tools.
- Solid understanding around the importance of data management within the context of financial analysis
