Vistamere by Fieldgate Retirement Living is looking for a Part Time Cook to join our Culinary Team

JOB SUMMERY:
The cook prepares the food for each meal as outlined on the menu, utilizing standardized recipes. This individual is responsible for ensuring that the food is prepared in a proper manner and presented to the resident in a palatable manner and presented to the resident in a palatable and appetizing appearance.

FUNCTIONS:
1. Preparation of high quality, tasty meals according to the posted menu and following the standardized recipes with attention to portion control.

2. Oversees and assists with the service of food, ensuring resident food preference are respected.

3. Ensures that all dietary functions are performed in a clean, sanitary manner according to regulations.

4. Assist in control of food costs and wastage.

5. Recommends and institutes change in technique or procedure for more efficient operation.

6. Relieved director of food services on days off and performs necessary related duties as determined appropriate.

7. Assist in the orientation and training of new dietary personnel.

8. Inspect food supplies and determine what quantities of food should be reordered and communicate this to supervisor.

9. Attend in service to better understand the dietary needs of the residents.

10. Attends staff meetings as required to be aware of changes in the facility.

11. Is aware and endeavors to respect and promote the resident rights and responsibilities.

12. Participates in the quality improvement program.

13. Performs other duties and functions as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

- Must be able to concentrate in an environment that provides constant interruption and change.
- Lifting alone, maximum 40 lbs. (5-25 lbs. usual) as a non
- essential job function.
- Lifting with assistance, maximum 160 lbs. (100-125 usual) as an essential job function.
- Pushing/pulling, maximum 100 lbs. (20-50 lbs. usual) as an essential job function.
- Stretching /reaching on a regular frequency throughout the shift, as an essential job function.
- Walking, with the possibility of some upstairs walking (1-2 hours usual), as an essential job function.
- Standing for lengths of time, up to 3 hours maximum (1-2 hours usual) as an essential job function.
- Crouching / kneeling for short periods of time as a non-essential job function.

Responsibilities to health and safety:
1. Is a competent person as defined by the occupational health and safety Act.

2. Monitors adherence to safety policies and procedures of subordinates and promotes safe work practices for self and others.

3. Is alert to and promptly reports all actual or potentially hazardous situations.

4. Ensure that all reported injuries and illnesses are treated promptly and documented according to policy, and that transportation for treatment of critical injury is arranged.

5. Participates in fire safety demonstrations and fire drills, and knows the facility fire

and disaster plan.

**Mandatory Qualifications**
- **Valid Food Handling Certificate**: All applicants must possess a current and valid food handling certificate to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
- **Weekend Availability**: Flexibility to work on weekends is essential to accommodate our residents’ needs and ensure continuous high-quality service.
