Job Summary
A Brief Overview
The Housing and Ancillary Services team manages 4,859 student beds in 18 residence buildings, as well as off-campus rental apartment and housing properties, three dining halls, numerous retail foodservice locations on campus, the Donald Gordon Hotel and Conference Centre and Event Services. Residence buildings also provide temporary accommodations for the summer conference, events and tourism markets. Revenue and services from these units support vital student life programs and contribute to the University's learning environment.
Queen's Residence Life and Services is committed to providing an experience aimed at fostering the educational and personal growth of its residents. The Residence Life and Services staff team is dedicated to the development of the whole student, promoting diversity, accountability, independence and success in a broader learning environment.
This position provides individual, crisis, and short-term counselling to first year students in residence with mental health, personal, and academic concerns, utilizing appropriate therapeutic modalities, and approaches matched to client needs. This position works within an interdisciplinary team to support student well-being, and assists with managing urgent/crisis situations. This position also supports students in developing skills in areas such as interpersonal relationships, stress-reduction, developmental concerns, management of emotions, mindfulness, conflict resolution, emotional regulation, and strategies to assist in overcoming mental barriers to performance. This position coordinates outreach activities for students in residence, develops and shares educational resources with staff and students and develops training sessions for annual student staff onboarding. This position requires knowledge of the unique issues facing university students and knowledge of university life and the intersecting nature of issues of social identities and health and wellness.

The schedule for this position requires the incumbent to work evenings and weekends.
**Job Description**:
What you will do
Provides individual, crisis, and short-term counselling to students with mental health, personal, and academic concerns, utilizing appropriate therapeutic modalities, and approaches matched to client needs.
Works within an interdisciplinary team to support student well-being, and assists with managing urgent/crisis situations.
Assesses students including those in crisis and who may be at risk of self-harm/suicide, and intervenes or refers as appropriate.
Plans, prepares, and organizes training and development programs and materials to increase awareness of, and approaches to post-trauma related supports.
Provides academic support and resourcing to students, and evaluates and recommends the need for short-term academic accommodations.
Supports students in developing skills in areas such as interpersonal relationships, stress-reduction, developmental concerns, management of emotions, mindfulness, conflict resolution, emotional regulation, and strategies to assist in overcoming mental barriers to performance.
Builds relationships and liaises with other departments, faculty, student leaders, health care professionals, and community resources.
Other duties as required in the support of the department and/or unit. Required Education
Master's Degree or equivalent. In addition, requires a professional designation, certification, or other qualification, or on-going learning to remain ahead of changes in technology or emerging fields. Required Experience
More than 3 years and up to and including 5 years of experience.
Experience working in a comparable client-focused environment considered an asset Required Licenses and Certifications
A Registered Psychotherapist designation is required.
Satisfactory Criminal Records Check required.
