As a Technical Writer, you will be responsible for providing advanced technical writing expertise, content creation, and design for various Corporate Security reports, One Calgary submissions, business unit standards, guides/guidelines, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and forms. You will edit and produce complex data and manage sensitive information, resulting in the development of professional working documents. Primary duties include:

- Draft, write and edit to ensure policies, standards, guides, and other documentation comply with and follow City guidelines, standards, style guides and best practices and are linked to relevant frameworks.
- Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and other interested parties to understand technical concepts and gather information needed for documentation.
- Write clear, concise, and accurate content using plain language and appropriate technical terms.
- Ensure the content is organized logically, with clear headings, sections, and sub-sections.
- Incorporate appropriate visuals, such as diagrams, screenshots, or illustrations to enhance understanding.
- Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and new technologies relevant to technical writing.
- Update and maintain online documentation, including the forms library, security messages and digital displays.
- Identify necessary updates and revisions to reflect changes in products, features, or processes, services, strategies and corporate direction.
- Verify the accuracy of the information by testing procedures or seeking feedback from users and identify areas for improvement or clarification.

**Qualifications**
- A completed certificate in Technical Writing and at least 5 years of technical writing experience, OR;
- A completed 2 year diploma in Communications or a related field, including courses in technical writing, and at least 3 years of technical writing experience, OR;
- A degree in Communications or a related field, including courses in technical writing, and at least 1 year of technical writing experience.
- A thorough and strong understanding of technical writing principles and advanced writing skills and proficiency and expertise in using relevant work processes, page layout and web editing software.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office, Visio, Adobe Captivate, Adobe Acrobat Pro, SharePoint and knowledge of Content Server.
- Demonstrated knowledge of industry principles and practices of technical writing and how it relates to adult education.
- Experience in Corporate Security or working knowledge of risk management and/or risk mitigation will be considered an asset.
- Success in this position requires effective communication skills, strong attention to detail, problem solving skills, the ability to make decisions and to collaboratively create and implement continuous improvement objectives.

Compensation: Pay Grade 8 $37.77 - 50.50 per hour
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
