The Registry of Motor Vehicles Division at the Department of Public Works (PW) is responsible for the administration of drivers and vehicles in the province. We are responsible for the policies, legislation, and regulations that guide Road Safety and operate in a proactive regulatory environment. We maintain records regarding vehicles, driver licensing, medical fitness, driver competency, collisions and compliance, all working together to ensure a safe road network.
About Our Opportunity
Under the general direction of the Senior Program Coordinator, the Program Coordinator/Research and Policy Analyst with the Registry of Motor Vehicles is a senior position responsible for developing and recommending legislation, policies, processes, procedures, and regulations in line with Departmental strategic goals. You will provide research, analysis, and planning on current and emerging best practices in and around motor vehicles, traffic safety and driver licensing.
Primary Accountabilities
As Program Coordinator/Research and Policy Analyst you will be responsible for addressing major road safety and driver licensing policy issues and implementing procedural and process reviews through independent work and in conjunction with the Senior Program Coordinator. You will be involved in multi-disciplinary project teams, while formulating polices, regulations and legislation to deal with current and future challenges within the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
You will be required to interact with senior levels of the department, other government departments, other levels of government and the private sector. The analyst will be involved in setting standards, outcomes and evaluation. Below are the typical duties performed by this position:
Assist with the formation of policy and planning options to guide the delivery of departmental programs and services. The incumbent will be required to maintain a sound knowledge of issues and to liaise with departmental and interdepartmental staff, the private sector and not for profit organizations to receive input in order to effectively prepare departmental positions, briefing notes and responses to various initiatives. This requires the incumbent to deal with issues of a highly sensitive and confidential nature.
Preparation and coordination of documentation related to policy development, long/short term planning and organizational changes. Conducts research, performs statistical analysis and responds to inquiries. This requires the ability to evaluate the quality of data collected and to convert it to usable information.
Represents the Department and/or division on various internal and external committees; exchanges information relating to the Department through communication with other departments, other levels of provincial government, associations and the private sector.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's degree plus 5 years of related experience, or master's degree plus 3 years of experience. Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

An equivalent combination of training, education and experience will be considered. Related equivalencies may include, but are not limited to:
A related master's degree and three (3) years of related experience

Working Conditions
Normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day.
May be required to work overtime on occasion.
Typically located in a comfortable office environment.
Much of the time is spent in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about.
Regularly reads and interprets multiple sources of information, regular requirement to type, read and work on a computer.
May experience pressure with deadlines and need for accuracy.
