Director of Health and Safety

Schlegel Villages' Support Office located in **Kitchener, Ontario**has an exciting opportunity for a **Director of Health and Safety** to join their team. Supported by the Sr. Director of Labour Relations, this Village-facing role will work closely with our leaders providing support and guidance.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the organization’s Health & Safety Program
- Maintain and update the organization’s health & safety policies and procedures to reflect regulations and current best practices
- Provide guidance and direct support to leaders and Village Joint Health and Safety Committees on health & safety matters
- Develop, coordinate, and/or conduct health & safety training
- Conduct comprehensive investigations, prepare reports, and make recommendations for corrective actions and/or support leaders to complete incident investigations
- Track data from MLITSD Field Visits, analyze trends, identify systemic issues, present recommendations, and drive proactive solutions
- Assist Villages to respond to compliance orders from MLITSD
- Liaise with Health & Safety professionals in the sector
- Promote a culture of safety, learning, and continuous quality improvement at all levels

**Qualifications**:

- Proven knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and applicable legislation
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field is an asset and may be complemented by experience in Occupational Health & Safety, preferably in senior living, or a complex organizational environment
- Proactive and solution-focused with the ability to balance compliance requirements and organization-level strategy with hands-on Village support and operational realities
- Highly organized, analytical, and capable of managing multiple priorities at unique Villages
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills to engage and influence partners across all levels
- Demonstrated leadership in managing projects, driving change, and fostering organizational alignment

**Travel Requirements**:
This is a hybrid role with requirements to be on site and/or weekly travel to our Villages
