**Intelligence Analyst (Contract)**
**Waterloo Regional Police Service**

As the **Intelligence Analyst**
**You Will**:
- Collaborate with a province-wide joint analytics working group to collect and share information on gun and gang activity and trends;
- Collect, summarize and interpret qualitative and quantitative data and information related to criminal activity that is obtained from diverse sources for the purpose of advancing investigations, producing leads and identifying operational dynamics and group structures;
- Use complex and specialized research analysis methods to develop inferences about criminal operations, key individuals, methods of operation, extent of criminal influence and scope to identify overall and specific trends related to organized crime locally, provincially, federally and internationally;
- Prepare written strategic intelligence assessments, issue notes, and presentations on specific trends related to organized crime. Develop and maintains intelligence products, including reports, charts, graphs, and supporting materials for use by investigators and management for making informed decisions on the allocation of resources and investigative techniques;
- Liaise with external partners and agencies to share intelligence related to criminal activity and/or organized crime and to identify organized crime trends and movement on a municipal, provincial, federal and international level;
- Add, modify and delete reports on ACIIS, performs audits to ensure compliance with rules, regulations and retention policies as set by CISO, reviews ACIIS broadcasts for relevant information and disseminates reports to appropriate investigators or Units for awareness;
- Attend intelligence collaboration meetings, investigative information sharing, seminars, courses and conferences related to law enforcement and/or criminal intelligence analytical methods, procedures, equipment, programs; uses information gathered to recommend appropriate methodologies for police specific data collection to enhance information flow;
- Ensure confidentially of information by monitoring quality, validity and security of record maintenance to ensure information remains intact and secure;
- Prepare all required information for Court proceedings; attends meetings with Crown Attorney(s) periodically to assist in providing various functions and specialized tasks or to assist with court preparation and the presentation of data; testifies in court as required; and
- Perform any other related duties as assigned_._
**You Have**:
- Successful completion of a degree in Criminology, Geography, Social Science or related field is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered;
- Minimum one (1) year of previous experience conducting research, data analysis, formulating and testing hypotheses, and providing recommendations is required. Previous experience and/ or training in crime and intelligence analysis is considered an asset;
- Advanced skill in Microsoft Office programs, such as Excel, PowerPoint and Word is required;
- Knowledge of geographic information systems (GIS) software is considered an asset;
- Previous experience creating analytical reports using software packages to identify patterns and trends within data is considered an asset;
- Exceptional analytical, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills required to conduct research, analyze data and prepare intelligence products;
- Excellent time-management and organizational skills; ability to prioritize multiple initiatives and re-adjust priorities in a fast-paced environment;
- Strong presentation and facilitation skills to effectively explain, communicate and deliver presentations; and
- A valid Class ‘G’ Driver’s License with no more than six (6) demerit points required to travel within and outside of the Region.
**You Are**:
- A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills;
- Able to acquire knowledge from the Intranet/Internet and police computer networks and systems, such as Niche RMS, the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) system, iBase, human source information, Automated Criminal Intelligence Information System (ACIIS), JSI 4Sight Explorer and ICU Workbench;
- Able to read intelligence and analytical reports and correspondence, Field Contacts, Crown Briefs, and to query police occurrences through Niche RMS, CPIC and other police-related systems;
