**Job Summary**

Vela Canada is assisting in the search for anexceptional, **Part-time**, **Community Support Worker** to support a delightful young adult located in **Richmond **during **Mondays** to **Fridays** **11:00am** to **4:00pm**. This position aims to provide individual-centered assistance to help maintain his independence while achieving his personal goals. As their community support worker, you will be performing the following duties and responsibilities.
- Supporting and transporting individual to social or recreational activities
- Administering and recording medication(s)
- Preparing and assisting individual with basic life skills
- Consistently ensuring a safe and positive environment for the individual
- Identify social, economic, recreational, physical, and educational programs/services to assist the individual to achieve personal goals and develop relationships within the community
- Assist individual in performing household duties and daily activities in an independent manner
- Observing and reporting any changes in the individual's condition or behaviour to the IF agent and adapt activities as needed
- Other assigned duties by IF agent

**Qualifications**

Education & Experience
- Community Support Worker Certificate or equivalent experience and willingness for on-the-job training
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate or equivalent experience and willingness for on-the-job training

Preference will be given to:

- Experience working with individuals with intellectual, behavioral, and physical challenges
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Valid First Aid & CPR Certificate

**Skills, Abilities & Knowledge**
- Knowledgeable of the local community, activities, and events
- Ability to support individuals who communicate through behavioral and physically means in a dignified manner
- Strong rapport building/relational skills, that includes respectful interactions
- with youth, caregivers, school, and community
- Ability to perform basic household duties: as part of life skills training with
- youth - cleaning, chores, laundry, meals, outdoor chores
- Ability to the work as team player with family, friends, and Microboard members
- Empathy, patience and a compassionate approach
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Understanding of client confidentiality and privacy
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Basic computer literacy

**Special Requirements**
- Must provide a complete and current Vulnerable Sector Check (including criminal record check) or be willing to obtain on
- Valid driver’s abstract from ICBC
- Reliable vehicle
- Completed and signed Medical Consent Form

Pay: $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 hours per week
