The Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada, a national union representing some 70,000 professionals and scientists throughout Canada, requires a **Translator** for its National Office in Ottawa.

**What can I expect to do in this role?**

Under the direction of the Manager, Corporate Services, and the functional guidance of the Team Lead, Translation, the Translator provides translation, revision and proofreading services.

**Primary responsibilities**:

- Deliver finalized documents or communications material in terms of translated content, format and layout.
- Provide translation advice and assistance to colleagues from translation and other sections, members, and freelance translators.
- Performs machine translation post-editing as well as less complex transcreation of communications material, including social media and marketing.
- Capture and share terminology with colleagues, conduct outside documentary and terminology research, update in-house lexicons, and provide direction and instruction to external translators.
- Participate in multidisciplinary teams assigned to special projects and work collaboratively with employees in other sections.
- May be requested to undertake other related duties as required.

**Knowledge and Experience Requirements**

**Education**:

- Successfully completed a relevant university degree in Translation or a related discipline

**Experience**:

- Three (3) to five (5) years recent and continuous experience in the revision and translation of documents from English to French and French to English, or an equivalent combination of education and experience**.**

**Language Requirements**:

- Proficiency in both official languages (English and French / written and oral)

**Skills and experience required**:

- Thorough knowledge of style format, syntax, grammar and punctuation in both English and French.
- Thorough knowledge of solutions to translation difficulties.
- Thorough knowledge of word processing and communication tools and ability to translate, revise, proofread, and correct documents.
- Thorough knowledge of machine translation tools (translation software and research tools).
- Strong computer skills and experience with Google Suites and communication tools.
- Knowledge of terminology used in collective bargaining, labour relations and the public service.
- Knowledge of gender-inclusive language guidelines and best practices.
- Ability to analyze and evaluate source material and target audience in order to reflect factual content, intent and meaning of the translation.
- Ability to translate and revise/edit at performance levels, according to industry standards, a wide variety of texts in French with commitment to high quality work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to use current and new translation tools and technologies with ease.
- Ability to communicate with staff and officials of the Institute in giving and obtaining advice.

**Compensation**:

- Salary Range: $71,717 to $89,648 (G4)
