Overnight Shelter Worker

Reporting directly to the Manager of Frontline Services, the Overnight Shelter Worker ensures a welcoming environment for all guests looking to access the overnight shelter services. They are in place to ensure that front-line services are available to all guests and that the vision and values of the organization are upheld.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Perform duties as advised during the “sign in period” with the intake of all guests prior to allowing them into the Shelter.
- Complete Shelter Agreements with all new guests upon arriving for the overnight Shelter services.
- If suspected to have weapons in their possession, conduct voluntary searches of the guests and their belongings.
- Assign beds to all guests, provide bedding, personal care items and facilitate guests having opportunities to complete personal hygiene in a timely fashion.
- First aid and contact 911 for guests in medical distress.
- Be aware of daily bar list and enforce the bars as directed.
- Ensure that all guest information is placed in HIFIS before end of shift.
- Enforce chore list each morning prior to guests leaving the Shelter.
- Ensure that lights are out at designated times and that guests are in their assigned beds.
- Conduct rounds every 1 hour, answer door buzzer as required, and remain vigilant to the overall overnight activities.
- Wake all guests up at 7:00am on weekdays and 8:00am on weekends. Facilitate opportunities for personal care, completion of chores, and bed making. Ensure that nothing is left in the sleeping area prior to leaving the Shelter.
- Supervise use of the telephone by dialing all outside numbers.
- Conduct medication collection, dispersal, storage and recording at allotted times for all Shelter guests.
- Assist with maintaining cleanliness and order of the shelter, by maintaining the storage room, shelter office, lost and found, and cleaning closet up to set standards.
- Ensure all guests have left the Shelter, prior to ending shift.
- Contact RCMP in incidents where guests ‘ safety is compromised by another’s behavior or when a guest is a danger to themselves.
- Complete incident reports as required and submit to the Manager Front-Line Services.
