OVERVIEW

Thurber has an exciting opportunity for a **Junior Geotechnical Field and Laboratory Technician **to join our team in, **Victoria, British Columbia**.

Thurber provides geotechnical, environmental, and construction materials engineering and testing services for a variety of industries across Canada. Our multidisciplinary expertise allows us to work on problems related to earth, the environment, and construction materials. We solve problems in a wide variety of industries including transportation, building construction, municipal infrastructure, land development, dams and water resources, industrial development, mining, oil and gas, marine, and environmental services.

As our Junior Geotechnical Field and Laboratory Technician, you will work on varied projects and develop your skills with guidance and mentorship from our senior team.

**Responsibilities**
- Conduct field inspections and monitoring during construction projects to ensure compliance with geotechnical specifications and standards;
- Conduct in situ testing of various materials on construction sites, compaction testing, and testing of concrete and asphalt;
- Carrying out laboratory tests within our soils, concrete, and asphalt laboratory;
- Ensuring laboratory equipment is maintained in accordance with specifications;
- Maintaining an organized environment including soil inventory and equipment within a team of laboratory and field specialists;
- Collaborate with engineers and other team members to provide technical support and assistance as needed;
- Maintain accurate records of field and laboratory testing activities; and,
- Uphold strong workplace health and safety practices.

**Qualifications**
- Valid Class 5 Drivers license with acceptable driving record;
- Ability to lift 50lbs and complete fieldwork in all weather conditions;
- Willingness to work on a combination of field and office work in a variety of environments, including local and remote construction sites;
- Willingness to be a team player with a strong ability to work independently and be able to carry out assignments with mínimal supervision;
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills;
- Highly organized, and demonstrate a flexible approach to work assignments; and,
- Comfortable with variability in day-to-day tasks.

**Assets**
- Technician/technologist diploma from a recognized college;
- Experience with laboratory soil testing procedures such Proctor Tests and grain size analyses;
- An understanding of ASTM and CSA Standards; and,
- CCIL and CSA Certification for soils, concrete, and asphalt would be an asset.

**Base Salary Range**
- $53,000 - $65,000 per year, based on a 40-hour work week.
- The posted wage range for this position represents the range for the experience and qualifications noted in this posting.
