**Note**: If you are one of our successful applicants, it is important that you are prepared to work 35 - 40 hours a week with majority of time spent outside in various weather conditions, working with chemicals, and where high noise levels may be present. As the spray park and wading pools are located in public parks and are free access to the public there are no other employees attending to these locations. Benchmark staff are expected to be available to attend to the public’s questions and concerns. As well, you must be flexible to work a variety of shifts, availability to work evenings and weekends is a requirement for this position.
**Job description**:
As one of our Spray Park and Wading Pool Attendants, you oversee the day-to-day mechanical operation, administration, and maintenance of the spray decks and wading pools we operate.
As a successful applicant you will be responsible for water quality, mechanical functions, and for ensuring the facility and surrounding area is safe, clean, and aesthetically pleasing. You ensure that visitors to the facility have a safe and enjoyable experience. You are comfortable interacting with people, especially with children, and can identify problems quickly and deal with them effectively.
**Responsibilities**:
- Act immediately and appropriately to ensure safety of customers in the event of an emergency.
- Provide emergency care and treatment as required until arrival of emergency medical services.
- Present a professional appearance and attitude at all times, including wearing the provided uniform during each shift and appropriate footwear.
- Enforcement of the rules and regulations of the facility.
- Maintaining an excellent standard of customer engagement including addressing complaints and providing appropriate solutions.
- Ensuring the facilities are clean and safe by performing daily maintenance tasks and frequent checks.
- Overseeing the operation of the aquatic filtration system, including balancing chemicals, performing filter backwashes, and doing water tests.
- Compiling daily data such as water tests and head counts in a neat and orderly fashion.
- Complete and submit administrative reports, such as First Aid, Incident, or Aquatic Wheelchair Forms.
- Perform monthly work site and hazard inspections.
**Important Details**:
**Note**:The position is open to those 18 years of age or older. Preferences will be given to student(s) with disabilities or member(s) of a visible minority, who are priority students to hire for summer job funding.
This position is a seasonal full-time position, with hours ranging from 35-40 hours a week. There are two shifts per day, each shift averaging 6.5 hours.
Full time shifts will start in the beginning of June until Early September.
*All hired applicants who do not have Swimming Pool Operator Level 1 training will be required to attend a two-day training (unpaid) which will be scheduled and organized by Benchmark in May. Successful applicants will be asked to provide a deposit for this course however Benchmark covers the cost of this training.
**Qualifications**:
- Standard First Aid & CPR-C/AED
- A clean City of Calgary Police Information Check
The following certificates will be considered an asset to have;
- Previous customer service experience
- Swimming Pool Operator Level 1
- WHMIS and TDG certification
- Post-secondary education in a relevant field such as Recreation, Leisure, Fitness, Coaching, Health, Sociology, Psychology, Education, etc. and/or a combination of award certifications and experience deemed equivalent is desired.

**Health and Safety**:
- While performing the essential functions of this job, some tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort, typically involving some combination of standing, standing at a height, sitting, crouching, walking, climbing, performing work while wet and/or performing the aforementioned tasks for extended periods of time.
- Safe lifting, bending, and carrying techniques are required.
- Use of appropriate PPE (provided by Benchmark) when dealing with any and all pool chemicals, as well as certain cleaning products.
- Ability to bend, push, pull, lift, and walk to modify filter settings, move chemicals, distribute chemicals in the pool and to clean filters.
