The Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences is a science program, and offers research-based BSc programs that focus on various aspects of behavior in humans and animals. Our administrative team works collaboratively to support the diverse needs of faculty, sessional instructors, course instructors, teaching assistants, and students.

Under the general direction of the Manager, Finance & Operations, the Academic Advisor & TA Coordinator plays a key role in supporting both student success and academic operations. This position provides academic advising to undergraduate students, helping them navigate their academic journey from enrolment through to graduation. The Advisor assists with a wide range of academic concerns, including interpreting university policies, selecting courses and programs, and meeting degree requirements.

Advising is delivered through individual in-person, virtual, and electronic interactions, as well as group sessions, workshops, webinars, and student-focused events such as Fall/Spring Campus Day, Subject POSt Fair, the Experiential Learning Fair, among other events.

In addition to advising responsibilities, the role coordinates the recruitment and appointment of teaching assistants, course instructors, sessional lecturers, and stipend instructors. This includes monitoring TA budgets, resolving financial discrepancies, preparing applicant correspondence using standardized templates, and ensuring compliance with collective agreements and institutional policies.

**Your responsibilities will include**:

- Advising students on academic and/or financial matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual's background
- Providing detailed information on program and/or course eligibility requirements, procedures, policies and deadlines
- Coordinating the recruitment of teaching assistants, course instructors, sessional lecturers and/or stipend instructors
- Entering salary-related activities and/or personnel-related events in databases
- Interpreting guidelines to determine the eligibility of graduate students for teaching assistantships
- Acting as the first point of contact for program-related enquiries
- Keeping well-informed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements
- Liaising with internal contacts to resolve accounting, payroll and/or HRIS processing issues

**Essential Qualifications**:

- Bachelor's Degree, or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum five (5) years related experience advising students on program/course requirements and academic progression in a similar academic department
- Minimum two (2) years related experience in coordinating the recruitment of teaching assistants, course instructors, sessional lecturers and/or stipend instructors, and adhering to collective agreements and budget allocations
- Strong experience monitoring program accounts, such as TA budgets, and resolving financial discrepancies
