The Geoscience and Mines Branch of the Department of Natural Resources manages mineral resources to achieve optimum economic, social, and environmental value for Nova Scotia. Within the Branch, the Mineral Management Division includes, amongst others, a team which manages the Registry of Mineral and Petroleum Titles (the Registry).

About Our Opportunity
As the Coordinator of Mineral & Petroleum Titles, you will report to the Manager, Registry of Mineral and Petroleum Titles and provide expertise in mineral rights management and regulation in the Province of Nova Scotia. In this role, you will participate in the administration of the Mineral Resources Act and Regulations. You will build and maintain relationships within the Geoscience and Mines Branch, the Department of Natural Resources, other government departments and jurisdictions, and industry stake and rights holders.
Primary Accountabilities
Providing Mineral Resources (and other) legislation related guidance, expertise and interpretation to internal and external stakeholders
Representing the branch/division/section on various working groups and committees
Liaising with the developer/operator of the online mineral rights registry to ensure that issues are resolved and upgrades are completed on appropriate timelines
Processing and recording payments and refunds and/or supporting and guiding other staff in these tasks
Preparing reports which describe current statistics and analysis of mineral rights in Nova Scotia
Coordinating movement of data with branch internal GIS experts and other groups
Developing and updating procedures/processes and other documentation related to the work of the Registry
Qualifications and Experience
A bachelor's degree in a discipline related to mineral resource management and five years of related experience.
Strong communication (both oral and written), interpersonal, leadership, project management and judgment skills are essential.
A valid drivers license.
Extensive knowledge of the Province's Mineral Resources Act and Regulations, with a particular emphasis on mineral rights.
A deep understanding of online databases and connectivity with geographic information systems
Competencies in a number of computer programs (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, SAP, ARCGIS)
Experience in a direct customer/client facing role
We will assess the above qualifications using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.
