The Ministry of Municipal Affairs supports municipalities in providing well-managed, fiscally responsible, and accountable local government to Albertans. This includes administering municipal grant programs; delivering advisory and capacity-building supports; providing municipal services and managing public lands in the province’s three Special Areas; and overseeing the safety codes system in the province. The ministry also fosters stronger, safer communities across the province, and enables local governments to facilitate Alberta’s economic prosperity.

**Role Responsibilities**:
Under the general direction of the Director of Policy and Legislation, this position provides mentorship, knowledge/skill transfer, and facilitation to internal and external teams across all divisions in the department. The position is the lead on major projects, such as local elections policy, and works with other relevant Government of Alberta departments. This involves designing, planning, leading and evaluating major projects related to local government governance, planning, elections, housing, tax and assessment, and safety and building codes.

**Responsibilities Include**:

- Leading high profile, cross-department policy projects
- Providing mentorship, advice, and recommendations to other policy analysts
- Leading as the project manager on complex files such as the Local Authorities Election Act review
- Tracking and analyzing key issues affecting the provincial-municipal relationship
- Providing information and advice

**Qualifications**:
**Required**: University degree in Arts, Humanities, Business, Political Science or related, PLUS 6 years related experience or equivalent as described.

**Equivalency**:Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience, or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
For Example:

- Related 1 year certificate PLUS a minimum 9 years of experience
- Related 2-year diploma PLUS a minimum 8 years of experience

**The successful MUST also have**:

- Extensive applied policy experience in a government setting.
- Extensive experience leading complex policy projects.

**Assets**:

- Knowledge of the Municipal Government Act and Local Authorities Election Act.
- Understanding of municipal sector trends and issues.
