**Role Responsibilities**:
Alberta’s economic success relies on a world-class transportation system that connects people, goods, and markets across Canada and beyond. As a Policy Advisor with TEC, you will help shape that system by developing forward-looking, high-impact policy that addresses Alberta’s most pressing transportation challenges.
We are currently hiring for two Policy Advisor positions within the Strategic Policy and Business Services Branch. These roles offer the opportunity to lead high-impact work on transportation strategy, work closely with decision-makers, and contribute to the public good in a dynamic and evolving policy environment.
As a Policy Advisor, you will contribute to Alberta’s transportation strategy by leading policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, and intergovernmental coordination. Both roles involve collaborative, cross-disciplinary work to support Cabinet-level decisions and long-term infrastructure planning.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Conducting research and analysis to inform transportation policy decisions and strategic planning.
- Leading or contributing to the development of policy proposals, briefing materials, reports, and Cabinet documents.
- Coordinating cross-ministry and intergovernmental engagement and consultation activities.
- Developing practical recommendations that balance stakeholder input, jurisdictional considerations, and long-term impacts.
- Managing or supporting multi-stakeholder projects from initiation through implementation and evaluation.
- Building relationships with internal and external partners to support collaborative policy development.
- Monitoring emerging trends and issues to proactively advise senior leadership.
**Role Responsibilities cont.**:
While both positions share foundational responsibilities, each has a unique focus:
Specific to the Transportation Policy Advisor role (Freight, Road, Rail and Air Policy Unit):
- Conducting research and assessing policy issues related to goods movement and infrastructure planning across rail, road, air, and marine networks.
- Support multi-phase transportation policy projects including strategy development, stakeholder engagement, and evidence-based analysis.
- Monitoring and analyzing freight and rail movement trends, multi-modal corridor opportunities, and Alberta’s access to domestic and international markets.
- Engaging with federal regulators, industry stakeholders, and infrastructure owners to inform policy decisions affecting Alberta’s market access.
Specific to the Economic Corridors Policy Advisor role (Economic Corridor Systems Planning):
- Supporting analysis and positioning of Alberta’s priorities for intergovernmental settings, including federal, provincial and territorial forums.
- Coordinating Alberta’s input on federal transportation and economic corridor policy, legislation, and infrastructure initiatives
- Supporting the development of advocacy positions related to federal, provincial and territorial transportation systems focused on economic corridors including but not limited to railways, ports and airways.
- Providing intergovernmental analysis and strategic briefings to senior officials on national transportation priorities.
