Located in the heart of Downtown Markham, Kiu is a concept that was created with the intention to showcase high-quality fresh ingredients presented with fundamental Japanese cooking techniques while offering warm and inviting hospitality. Guests of Kiu Japanese restaurant will enjoy a versatile dining experience that strives to be memorable.
Position is available for full time or part time employment.
Bartender duties and responsibilities:
- Comprehensive knowledge of sake, wines, cocktail, beer and non-alcoholic beverages.
- Promptly receive drink order chits and pour all beverages according to Kiu Japanese Restaurant standards.
- Present beverages in a clear and organized manner at the bar pick up area.
- Communicate beverage descriptions, specials and information to guests and team members.
- Setup and take apart bar set up, glass washer and coffee machine.
- Stock and maintain all bar products including miso en place.
- Check and maintain beer keg and liquor levels.
- Relevant wine certification (WSET, CAPS, CMS) is an asset.
- Adheres to all responsible alcohol consumption requirements as dictated by the province and has valid smart serve certification.
Service and Guest Experience:
- Maintain an understanding of the proper steps of service. Consistently execute them efficiently and gracefully while maintaining a sense of urgency throughout service.
- Anticipate guest needs and create strong guest relationships. Guest recognition is critical.
- Ensure constant communication with staff members, management and the kitchen during service.
- Demonstrate expertise of current menus for all shifts.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the preparation and possible allergens of menu items.
- Maintain knowledge of changing menu items and sake, wine and beverage selections by attending lineup.
Relevant Knowledge, Skills, & Ability:
- Excellent Communicator - the ability to understand, speak & follow written and verbal instruction in English
- Attention to detail & well organized
- Team-oriented
- Excels in a team environment and is viewed as a team player by all team members.
- Is responsible for all information shared at the line-up, including food, beverage, service changes, and all daily specials
- Adheres to the dress code, appearance, and grooming standards specified in the service manual.
- Prioritizes tasks while focusing on guest needs first.
- Cantonese and/or Mandarin is an assets but not required.
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma
