Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts) is looking for an Accessibility Coordinator to provide support to students requiring academic accommodation.
This is a permanent part-time position recurring annually for the months of August 15 - June 15. Hours of work are 35 hours per week, 7 hours per day, for the ten months worked.
Reporting to the Director, Student Services and Wellness, The Coordinator will facilitate the accommodation process to determine the appropriate plan and services to be in place based on individual needs and documentation. As a member of the Student Services team, this role also contributes to broader wellness and inclusion initiatives, including campus events and workshops.
**Key Responsibilities**:
Academic Accommodations
- Respond to inquiries and collect necessary documentation for the development of individualized student accommodation agreements
- Review and interpret documentation to determine appropriate accommodations in accordance with protected grounds under relevant legislation
- Facilitate the academic accommodation process with the student, faculty & staff
- Coordinate the scheduling of accommodated exams and liaise with faculty to ensure exams are received in a timely manner and adequate preparation for students
- Coordinate note taking services and disbursement of class notes and course materials to students

Accessibility Resources & Reporting
- Maintain records related to accessibility and accommodations
- Assist with updates to relevant accessibility and accommodation resources
- Recommend resources for enhanced accommodation services and assistive technologies
- Promote awareness and information about the learning assistance resources and accommodations services
- Track and report on key metrics related to accessibility services
- Promote student wellness through participation in Campus Mental Health Strategy initiatives
- Assist with the Tutoring & Writing Centre to schedule appointments and coordinate services for students as needed
- Promote the implementation of Universal Design (UD) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles across campus services
- Provide support and guidance to faculty on inclusive teaching practices through information sessions and one-on-one consultations

**Qualifications**:
The following qualifications have been determined to promote likelihood of success in the role. In alignment with the principles of inclusion, individuals with an alternative equivalent qualification may be considered.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (e.g., Education, Social Work, Psychology)
- Minimum 3 years of related experience in accommodation and accessibility services
- Demonstrated experience implementing and monitoring academic accommodations including the assessment and evaluation of medical accommodation documentation
- Knowledge of Universal Design (UD) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles
- Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), the Access to Information Act (ATIA) and Alberta Human Rights Commission’s guidance on the duty to accommodate students with disabilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Excel, Word, SharePoint)
- Familiarity with Accommodate software or similar accommodation management software is an asset
- Demonstrated experience using Student Information Systems (e.g. Banner) is an asset
- Knowledge of relevant post-secondary legislation, policies, and procedures is an asset
