Data Analyst

Reporting to the Director, Institutional Research, the Data Analyst provides technical and analytical expertise to institutional research projects and initiatives to support strategic planning, quality assurance, evidence-based decision making, and the University’s external and internal reporting requirements. The Data Analyst prepares and validates data submissions for educational system initiatives, develops analytical models to support forecasting, planning and decision-making, and designs and executes relevant data visualizations. Using a range of internal and external data sources, the Data Analyst develops, manages and manipulates complex data sets required for research, analysis and reporting, undertaking data analyses and producing reports of analytical findings. The Data Analyst also supports the data governance program at RRU, especially with respect to data validation, data definitions, and data quality. In general, the role collects, compiles, verifies and transforms data into value-added information and reports, often to fulfill sensitive and high-priority internal and external information needs.
- Job Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in an analytical field of study such as data science, information science or mathematics. A Master’s degree in a relevant field is preferred
- Minimum of 3 years related experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Demonstrated skills in extracting, manipulating and analyzing large amounts of complex data efficiently to produce accurate results.
- Fluent in programming languages to extract and manage data (e.g., SQL, Python, R) and analyze large datasets.
- Knowledge of data governance principles and best practices.
- Experience with data modelling and business analysis techniques.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities with meticulous attention to detail with an emphasis on accuracy.
- Excellent written, oral, and visual communication skills. Ability to explain complex information clearly and concisely to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple competing deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills.
- High degree of ethics and sound judgment to manage sensitive, confidential, or contentious information.
- Superior collaboration skills, with a strong service orientation.
- Knowledge of relational and dimensional databases, with an understanding of the flow of data throughout administrative systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with the post-secondary sector and experience with academic and administrative processes and systems, including quality assurance frameworks.
- Experience working on information management or data governance projects.
- Additional Information
- This is a regular, full-time position working 37.5 hours per week. This position has been evaluated at MPT-B with a salary range of $69,908 (minimum) to $82,147 (midpoint) to $94,387 (maximum) per annum. Employment offers will normally be made between the minimum and midpoint of the range and are determined by knowledge, experience and internal equity.
