Processing Operator

**Position Title**: Processing Operator

**Shift/Hours**: Day Shift; 7:00 am to 3:00 pm

**Location**: Guelph, ON

**Reports to**: Production Supervisor

**Scope for the position**:

- Operates processing machines; makes machine adjustments as necessary to ensure optimum speed and quality of capsule filling operations. Weighs out ingredients as listed using scales and mixes ingredients, using appropriate mixing method, carefully and thoroughly.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements. Sets machine adjustments as required for each job.
- Lifts and places raw materials into appropriate tote or mixers via automatic or manual lifting. Properly labels bulk containers, mixes etc.
- Cleans area during and end of each batch. This includes cleaning and care of machine in accordance with manufacturer's specifications, cleaning the general area, floor, machine surfaces, etc., where the encapsulator and blending is being performed.
- Performs operator scheduled maintenance checklist.
- Arranges boxes and other supporting supplies in a neat and orderly manner.
- Places raw materials into machine; operates controls to activate machine. Observes machine operation to detect finished product defects or machine malfunction. Examines finished product to determine accuracy of machine operation. Performs minor machine troubleshooting.
- Assists set up person in obtaining raw materials in a timely manner.
- Complies with safety requirements.

**Required qualifications, education, experience, training, skills, background, certifications**:

- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.1-2 years
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
- Previous machine operation experience and basic mechanical aptitude required. Ability to keep the workplace clean and orderly; good personal hygiene practices are required. Ability to maintain high quality standards and fast-paced production, and to successfully troubleshoot a problem with mínimal supervision.

- The employee must regularly manually lift, move (in some cases drag) slide, raise and/or place:

- Up to 30 lb. force for up to 25 feet and then pull to original position.
- Up to 33 lbs. from 32 inch shelf onto 48 inch shelf, then return to original position.
- Up to 50 lbs. for 3 feet at waist level; lift bag/box onto side and return to original position.
- Up to 60 lbs. from 31-inch shelf and 2-hand carry for up to 5 feet; return 60 lbs. to 31-inch surface.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to herbal aromas and airborne particles. Employee is required to wear a dust mask and eye protection when needed.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Employee is required to wear hearing protection.
