We are currently seeking a Director, Buying and Merchandising - Leather and Accessories who will seek inspiration from our roots, can commit to achieving results the right way and loves to think big to join us on our journey.

The Director, Buying and Merchandising for Roots will be responsible for the following:

- Co-creating, and executing short term goals, and long term vision for the leather and accessories categories globally at roots.
- Leading cross-functional teams in the execution of product strategy which includes optimal product mix, price position, the rationalization of style and sku counts and final product assortment.
- Partnering closely with the leather factory and design team to shape and execute the total leather and accessories collection.
- Providing growth and decline direction to Buying to ensure strategic shifts in market result in achieving sell thru targets.
- Working closely with the Vice President, Merchandising & Planning to align on key semi-annual and quarterly go to market themes.
- Creating and executing the detailed department line plans that align with the brand vision including commercial and brand right trends, monthly style development and price matrix by class to support the needs of Retail, Web, and international business.
- Meeting set financial targets including sales and gross margin dollars.
- Overseeing the creation of monthly markdown proposals to manage inventory against budget.
- Partnering with Marketing to provide strategic direction for executing the marketing to support Roots sell thru targets.
- Working closely with the allocations, in-store visual and ecommerce teams to plan presentation of monthly product assortments for optimal brand presentation and to drive sales.
- Supporting store teams regarding merchandise stock levels and maintaining continuous communication and cooperation on product and store assortment
- Degree in Business, Management or a related field.
- 10+ years of category management, Buying, assortment planning and merchandising experience within the leather bags industry, with at least 3 years at management level
- Experience in managing category strategies all the way through to execution and postmortem.
- Experience with setting retail-pricing matrix to maximize profits and sales targets.
- Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Self-led and an independent thinker with the ability to drive results in a fast pace environment.
- Demonstrated leadership, development and coaching skills to lead an effective team.
- Demonstrated ability to articulate ideas and communicate with cross-functional teams to achieve goals.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- An understanding of/affinity for the Roots customer and a passion for the brand/company values
