**Manager, First Year Programs and Recruitment**:
**Primary Purpose**: Reporting to the Director of Undergraduate Student Services (DUSS), the Manager of First Year Programs and Recruitment plays a critical role in the drive to support the academic success and overall experience of first year students in the College of Arts and Science. The Manager of First Year Programs and Recruitment will provide administrative leadership, operational management and support for the Learning Communities and the University of Saskatchewan Transition Entrance Program (USTEP) of the College.

**Nature of Work**:Reporting to the Director of Undergraduate Student Services (DUSS), the Manager of First Year Programs and Recruitment:

- Provides direct leadership, training, supervision, and support to the Learning Communities Coordinator, the Recruitment Officers, academic coaches, student and recruitment ambassadors, and Peer Mentors of the College.
- Leads and participates in the recruitment and retention of students in the College of Arts and Science.
- Organizes and heads the Arts & Science Orientation Committee
- Oversees the Student Recruitment Ambassador (SRA) program.
- Provides oversight for the Learning Communities, including the University of Saskatchewan Transition Entrance Program (USTEP), FLEX and Level-up programs.
- Oversees the hiring, training, and development of Peer Mentors, the Learning Communities Coordinator, and Recruitment Officers.
- Provides strategic advice on all matters relating to recruitment, USTEP, and the Learning Communities to the Director of Undergraduate Student Services and other senior administrative leaders of the College of Arts and Science.
- Works closely with TLSE colleagues in Admissions, Transfer Credit, International Student and Study Abroad Centre (ISSAC), Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre, Recruitment, and Student Health and other central support units.
- Demonstrates leadership in promoting and actively participating in events and communities that involve professional education and networking activities for recruitment officers and the Learning Communities staff.
- Demonstrates empathetic leadership skills as well as conviction when making difficult decisions and/or communicating information.
- Exerts influence on the student experience and impacts the reputation of the UGSO, the College and the University.
- Performs in a high-pressure environment. The standard of the quality of work and timely completion of projects is high, as is the cost of every error.
- Is an effective team-lead for recruitment and learning communities’ staff, academic coaches, student and recruitment ambassadors, and peer mentors, who cultivates, nurtures, and promotes a positive work environment.
- Works in collaboration with all other managers and their teams in the UGSO.

**Accountabilities**
- Organizes and facilitates recruitment and retention efforts in the College, such as Open House, pinning ceremonies, college-level awards, and Major Possibilities.
- Enhances the student experience and contribute to the efforts of the College to meet enrolment, retention, and completion goals.
- Manages key student services and enrolment technologies.
- Demonstrates success by improving measured student recruitment, retention, and graduation rates, and raising measured levels of student satisfaction with student services.
- Assesses, evaluates, and reports processes and systems on a regular basis to the Director of Undergraduate Student Services to ensure that they are coordinated and aligned with on and off campus colleagues, including Recruitment, Admissions, ISSAC, AES, etc.
- Analyzes and reports recruitment and Learning Communities (including USTEP) statistics to the Director of Undergraduate Student Services to support policy and decision making.
- Identifies and model best-practices in recruiting and student services, ensuring high levels of standards of practice.
- Support practices and policies that proactively encourage and empower all students to assume responsibility for their education.
- Interprets and communicates academic policies of the College of Arts and Science to staff, peer mentors, and students (including prospective students).
- Responds to daily and emergent issues relating to recruitment and learning communities in a high-volume, multi-tasking environment; works with unpredictable and highly confidential information and events in a sensitive and timely manner; and can deal with emergencies as they arise.
