Bit By Bit is a summer computer camp for children aged 9-13. Operated by the Department of Computer Science at Western University, we introduce young students to the fascinating world of computer science and technology. Campers learn ideas and skills that form the basis for the technology they use every day. We aim to show campers that computers and technology empower them to bring their ideas to life. **Responsibilities**: Camp counsellors will be responsible for helping plan and preparing for the Summer Day camp sessions. Planning and preparation takes place in June. Hours of camp are from 9 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday in July and August with a before and after program from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 to 5:00 p.m. Shift times may vary from day to day. The curriculum that will be taught includes graphics design, game development, computer programming, and Lego Robotics. Counsellors need to have a good grasp on various aspects of Computer Science. This will be a very rewarding experience, applicants must be hard working, energetic, outgoing, creative and must love working with children. Campers range in age from 9 to 13. **Qualifications**: - Education: - Must be a student returning to studies in the fall - Experience: - Previous work experience in a similar role or within the department - Skills, Abilities & Expertise: - Written and verbal communication skills to express ideas clearly, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience - Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation - Reliable and dependable with the ability to consistently work assigned schedule - Ability to follow detailed and/or complex processes and practices with high attention to detail - Demonstrates integrity and works in accordance with Western's policies and procedures - Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized work environment - Computer skills with knowledge of HTML, CSS, Photoshop, Minecraft and the ability to program/write code and ability to learn and use new software programs as required - Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public - Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve camp goals - Ability to work in a manner that is compliant with confidentiality requirements as applicable **Why Western?**: **Background Checks**: Please note, successful applicants may be required to produce current record check(s) (e.g. vulnerable sector, criminal record and police information) from a police service prior to commencing employment.
