We are seeking a paralegal or legal assistant with Intellectual Property experience to join D-Wave’s IP department in Burnaby, BC to assist on global intellectual property matters and support D-Wave’s IP operations. You will report to D-Wave’s IP Manager, and also support D-Wave’s Finance and HR teams in relation to IP matters. You will play an important role in our office enabling our internal business teams and forming strong relationships throughout.
- Provide general operational assistance to the Intellectual Property department and liaise with other business units to address departmental needs in a timely manner.
- Support the IP department with invention disclosure documents, including processing documents and following up with authors for needed details.
- Monitor communication channels and correspondence to docket deadlines and ensure timely responses to outside counsel.
- Assist with record keeping, including daily updating of internal docket documents to track deadlines and tasks, organizing correspondence and documents into database, maintaining budget tracking, and review and tracking of invoices.
- Communicate with internal and external parties to ensure formalities such as signatures on documents are received in a timely manner.

- Five years of experience as a paralegal or legal assistant in the field of intellectual property. Completion of a paralegal certificate, diploma, or equivalent is an asset.
- Proficiency in word processing software including Excel and other document management tools. Previous experience with the advanced functions of Excel is an asset.
- _Excellent Attention to Detail_: Willing and able to take responsibility for deadlines and workflow management. Able to identify tasks and prioritize a high-volume workload with limited resources.
- _Self-Motivated and Goal Oriented_: Responsive, professional attitude with a willingness to learn. Able to achieve the right things to a high standard, on time, and with mínimal supervision. Excited about working in intellectual property.
- _Outstanding Communication Skills_: Position requires communication within many departments internal to the company, as well as with outside counsel and other third parties. Skilled at maintaining professional communication while also efficiently conveying information. Able to interact with technical staff in an effective manner. Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
- _Team Player_: Comfortable working in a group/team environment. Skilled at providing support to internal stakeholders by combining critical thinking skills, a high level of initiative, and a proactive approach to problem solving.
