Technical Machine Operator

We have an opportunity for a technically minded, detail focused individual to join our team as a **Technical Machine Operator**. This will be a 5 day a week, two-week shift rotation between 2 shift times: Days: Monday to Friday from 5:00 a.m.3:00 p.m., Evenings: Monday to Friday from 2:30 p.m.12:30 a.m. (10% shift premium). On-the-job training is provided in a friendly, team minded environment.

**Your day at Barkman may include**:

- Operating a highly automated production machine that produces pre-cast concrete products such as paving stones, sidewalk slabs and retaining walls
- Working at the quality control station to remove any defective products
- Follow daily job travelers to ensure orders are complete
- Assist with the Total Preventative Maintenance program
- Ensure that safety policies are followed
- Maintain quality workmanship
- Track data and information in computer system
- Depending on the individual’s motivation, this role has the potential of expanding into other key machine operator roles within the plant, including leadership opportunities.
- Physical activities include walking, standing, kneeling, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), reaching, using arms/hands to operate equipment, visually distinguishing colours
- Required to wear a hardhat, safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection at all times and a respirator (which requires an employee to be clean shaven) when needed for specific jobs
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment running a production machine
- Experience operating heavily automated production equipment
- Capability to lead a small team if required
- Ability to troubleshoot irregularities on production machinery
- Basic maintenance experience and a mechanical aptitude
- Strong numerical and mathematical skills
- Comfortable with using computers for entering data and recording information
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Familiar with Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement concepts
- Experience using precision measuring tools for quality checks
- An eye for detail and colour to create products that meet customer expectations
- Basic concrete/precast knowledge an asset
- A can-do attitude
