**Job Summary**

**Responsibilities and Activities**

**Payroll Administration**

  • Prepares bi-weekly payroll, ensuring the timely and accurate processing of employee pay
  • Processes hourly earnings, salary adjustments, special payments, tax allocations, union dues
  • Participates in other payroll initiatives and projects, as required
  • Participates in payroll reporting, as required, on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis.
  • Prepares invoices and remittances for third party billings
  • Participates in payroll year end and auditing procedures
  • Participates in creating and maintaining payroll procedures, related testing and training materials.
  • Assists the Payroll Supervisor as required

**Employee Benefits and Pension Administration**

  • Prepares monthly reconciliation of benefit accounts and payment of benefit providers
  • Responds to benefit enquiries in a timely fashion

**General Responsibilities**

  • Communicates with internal stakeholders to meet deadlines in an effective and professional manner
  • Responds to internal and external enquiries in person, on telephone and in person
  • Accurately maintain electronic and paper filing system related to pay and benefits, ensuring confidentiality and security of all documents and records
  • Keeps up to date with current government and provincial rules and regulations

**Qualifications**

  • Completion of a related post-secondary certificate or diploma.
  • Canadian Payroll Association PCP certification is an asset.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ recent full-time experience in a payroll administration position or related field.
  • Experience processing end to end payroll cycle in a unionized environment
  • Experience with year end process, T4s and pension reporting is an asset
  • A high degree of comfort with fully integrated Human Resources Information Systems, including payroll administration and time and attendance programs.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, keen attention to detail and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Canada Revenue Agency reporting guidelines for payroll administration
  • Knowledge of Federal and provincial payroll regulations and legislation.
