**About the Role**
The Human Resources Advisor - Labour Relations reports to the Director Human Resources or designate and will provide support to the company on labour relations at our unionized communities. These activates will vary from hands on guidance to coaching and advisory all that align with company customer centered philosophy.
**Responsibilities**
- Engage and mobilize your team to achieve the purpose, goals, objective and key results of the organization.
- Be an engaged collaborative team player, developing and maintaining professional relationships that support and strengthen the organizational culture and purpose.
- Model the values and leadership behaviours of the organization and inspire others to do the same.
- Provides guidance in areas of Labour and Employee Relations. This includes grievance research and administration.
- Provide labour relations service through coaching, training and consultation to corporate teams and community leaders regarding best practices.
- Assists managers in preparing alternatives to resolve disputes and grievances including developing and compiling documentation, reviewing employee personnel files and making recommendations.
- Assists communities maintain compliance with internal human resource policies and practices, as well as legislation as it relates to the human resource function (including the Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Code and Workers Compensation Act).
- Supports the communities assessing grievances to resolution or where necessary through the Arbitration process, attend hearings as the company representative when necessary
- Supports complex investigations at community level lease with other manager and HR practitioners.
- Oversee a portfolio of communities to support the overall Human Resources role
- Provides labour relations training and consultation to corporate teams and site leadership teams
- Work collaboratively to provide advice and perspective when reviewing labour and employee implications of mergers and acquisitions.
- Maintains a safe environment for residents, family and staff, through:
- accident prevention,
- knowledge of emergency procedures and regulations,
- the safe use of supplies and equipment and reporting when repairs are necessary, and
- Utilizing infection control procedures
- Performs all other duties as required.
**Qualifications and Skills**
- A university degree or diploma in Human Resources/Labour Relations (or related discipline) with 5-7 years labour relations experience within a unionized environment.
- CPHR designation or working towards is an asset.
- The ability to research, analyze and reason logically and effectively within tight and conflicting timeframes.
- Handles confidential information in an ethical manner.
- Strong work ethic, high level of enthusiasm and ability to excel in a flexible, fast paced environment. Ability to take initiative and work independently with the support of the team.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and an effective communication both orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of applicable legislations with understanding of Labour Relations, Employee Relations and contract interpretation experience.
- Some travel may be required.
- Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.
- All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines.
