Overview

Applications are invited for a Mitacs Industrial Postdoctoral Fellowship with the Digital Society Lab at McMaster University and industry partner Vox Pop Labs, a social enterprise that builds digital products such as Vote Compass with a view to improving democratic participation and political representation.

This postdoctoral fellowship is structured so as to provide the successful applicant with practical experience as a social scientist working in an industry setting while concurrently offering opportunities to advance their record of scholarship.

The successful applicant will work primarily in a research role with Vox Pop Labs, where they will participate in survey design and analysis among other tasks. Given the research focus on the Canadian population, it is imperative that the successful applicant is highly proficient in both French and English. This role will involve a significant amount of translation work and will require both an expert-level command of both languages and the ability to think critically about the linguistic nuances of survey design.

The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to work in an academic lab setting at the Digital Society Lab, where they may be invited to collaborate on publications, grants, and/or course instruction.

**Qualifications**:
completed their Ph.D. in either a social scientific or related discipline;
high proficiency in spoken and written French and English, preferably with experience translating between the two languages; and
an interest, if not experience, in survey design and analysis.

Duration and Funding

The term of the fellowship is one year with an option to renew for an additional year at the discretion of the industry partner. Local, national, and international applicants are welcome to apply. The salary is $60,000 CAD/year inclusive of benefits.
