Summer Student Labourer

**As the** **_Summer Student - Labourer_** **working with the Parks and Open Space Division **you will**:
- Assisting traffic control and barricade/sign removal.
- Completing the preparation and clean-up of worksites.
- Assist with vegetation control.
- Assist with city beautification including but not limited to planting, maintaining floral beds, watering.
- Completing grounds maintenance, shoveling materials (including gravel, concrete and asphalt), and painting.
- Operating, cleaning, and maintaining various types of hand and power tools including lawn mowers, cord trimmers, shovels, rakes etc.
**Your education and qualifications include**:
- Previous limited landscaping/grounds maintenance experience, which could include sodding, lawn/turf maintenance, painting, cord trimming etc.
- Ability to use hand and/or power tools.
- Ability to deal effectively and courteously with various staff and the general public.
- Effective written communication with the ability to complete accurate records.
- Effective verbal communication skills.
**Conditions of employment**:
- The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
- Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
- The successful applicant(s) will be required to provide personal protective safety boots at their own expense.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods and over uneven terrain.
- Physically capable of performing all duties as assigned (which may include lifting up to 50 lbs.).
