The Alternative Resource Energy Authority (AREA) is owned by the towns of Berwick, Mahone Bay and Antigonish, and has a mandate to assist our owner towns become the first net zero communities in Canada. AREA supplies clean and cost-effective electricity to the municipal electric utilities of its owner towns and the Riverport Electric Light Commission is also a key customer. AREA owns and operates the 23.5 MW Ellershouse Wind Farm and is currently constructing 9MW of community solar gardens in our owner towns. AREA also manages the power arrangements of its four customers in a competitive wholesale electricity marketplace. The four municipal electric utilities are working with AREA as they pursue net zero carbon for the remaining 80GWh/35MW of annual electricity requirements.

- Understand then document (i) existing municipal electric utility priorities and desired outcomes for customers and (ii) existing process flows that enable delivery of stated priorities and outcomes.
- Conduct a performance analysis to determine level of process success and associated costs of all existing processes.
- Conduct a review of available literature and other third-party information related to efficient operations of small electric utilities.
- Devise process and management alternatives that are streamlined, consolidated and cost-effective and assess them against the status quo operations.
- Assist the General Manager with any approvals and action plans necessary to implement the identified improvements with NS municipal electric utility management and operational functions.
- Other tasks as assigned by the General Manager to assist AREA’s achievement of its mandate.

Salary negotiable based on qualifications, compensation includes a competitive benefits and pension plan.
