Technical Advisor

**Summary**

The Technical Advisor position works directly with the Maintenance Manager, Heavy Duty Mechanics and maintenance team in supporting the business needs, as well as builds and maintains relationships throughout the maintenance team, the local operations and the company. The Technical Advisor also works to build relationships and maintain positive interaction with the fleet operations group including equipment operators, marine personnel and yard personnel.

The Technical Advisor will work with the Maintenance Manager, Charge Hands and Heavy Duty Mechanics to make sure that the needs of the business are met in a timely manner, within scope and budget.

**Responsibilities**

The Technical Advisor will be responsible for, but is not limited to:

- Coordinating and collaborating with the Maintenance Manager and the Maintenance Team to ensure that all brake fixes and annual and preventative maintenance needs are met.
- Provide support to Maintenance Manager for operational needs and coverage when needed.
- Provide support to the Charge Hands for organizing and delegating tasks to maintain a consistent productive workflow and proactively deal with natural hazards and weather events as they arise
- Support the monitoring of all Helm tasks and upcoming maintenance routines for area of responsibility (Boats/Cranes) and ensure all items are addressed based on urgency.
- Maintain site security while on shift and ensure lockup is complete before the end of the shift
- Ensure the company is not exposed to unnecessary liabilities by employees and ensure that assets are cared for effectively.
- Update Maintenance Manager regarding facility Operations details as they occur to allow for a proactive approach to any concerns
- Provide a positive and constructive example to Heavy Duty mechanics. Assist with providing guidance and leadership as appropriate.
- Set an example for team and support policies and procedures when rolled out.
- Provide support and guidance to Operations as needed for docking, landing barges or other operational needs as required

**Mechanical duties for the Technical Advisor include**:

- Ensure that planned preventative maintenance activities and repairs on all types of heavy equipment is coordinated with maintenance and operations
- Ensure that accurate records of maintenance performed and equipment deficiencies is up to date
- Provide guidance with the development of and demonstrate the ability to follow maintenance procedures and instructions. This includes providing guidance and mentorship to others as needed.
- Participate in safety programs and adhere to site safety standards.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Experience with**:

- Friction Lattice Cranes
- Manitowoc 4600 cranes
- EMD, Cummins, CAT Engines
- Marine mechanical
- Tugboat systems

**Requirements**:

- 5 to 7 years of on tool experience
- 3 to 5 years of leadership/supervisory experience
- Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic
- Ability to prioritize and manage deadlines to meet the needs of the business operations
- Be able to adapt to changes in priority and work under pressure
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

Pay: From $50.00 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate:

**Education**:

- AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (preferred)

**Experience**:

- Heavy duty mechanical: 5 years (preferred)
- Leadership: 3 years (preferred)

**Location**:

Willingness to travel:

- 25% (preferred)
