Health & Safety Advisor (Afternoon Shift)

ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY Black & McDonald Limited is actively seeking a Health & Safety Advisor (Afternoon Shift) to evaluate & monitor health & safety hazards & develop control strategies for Industrial, Commercial & Institutional Sector job sites. This position will require the successful candidate to inspect construction, industrial, & commercial (as well as various other) workplaces to ensure compliance with company / client policies & procedures as well as government legislation & industry best practice standards. This position will require a working knowledge of the mechanical & electrical fields to ensure an adequate understanding of the unique hazards & challenges our employees face. The successful candidate should be familiar with industry guidelines, ESA Code, TSSA Standards & appropriate CSA standards. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Conduct safety & environmental audits within the mechanical & electrical operationsInspect worksites to ensure that equipment & materials do not present a safety or health hazard to employees or to the general public to ensure compliance with Company / Client Policy & LegislationReview/perform/complete incident & inspection reports & ensure that corrective action & follow-up is takenParticipate in the development and implementation of health & safety programs & strategies related to mechanical & electrical workParticipate in the development of safe work practices & job proceduresMaintain inventory of safe work practices & job proceduresProvide consultation & deliver training programs to employees on issues of health & safety (ICI)Coordinate/Assist site activity & ensure that the duties, responsibilities, & authority are clearly definedAssist, advise & coach manager(s) & supervisorsReview & investigate problems not resolved by site supervisors & contractorsEnsure that appropriate practices & procedures are provided to supervisory staffReview the maintenance of safety equipmentConduct audits of subcontractor loss control programsSupport and ensure accurate investigation, reporting, & effective cleanup of spills related to the B&M Environmental program. COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS Change OrientationCommunicates EffectivelyContinuous LearningCustomer FocusHolds Self and Others AccountableProblem Solving and InnovationBe able to work within a team environment as well as work without supervisionValues and Respects OthersExcellent and professional written and oral communication skillsExcellent safety reporting skillsAbove average observation skillsProficient with computer and mobile applicationsBe able to multi-task and meet deadlines as requiredKnowledge of the OHSABe able to take direction and learn from Senior Health and Safety Professionals EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS 3-5 years' of experience within the HSE related fieldNCSO, CUSP, CRSP designations are assetsBachelor's degree or college diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or Environmental Studies or equivalentTraining in Fall Protection/Working at Heights, First-Aid/CPR, Confined Space, Electrical Awareness, Asbestos Awareness are assetsWorking knowledge of provincial and federal HSE regulations, programs and standardsProficient with Microsoft Office applications, and other HSE databasesLanguages: fluently read, write, and speak in English WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Experience working within the ICI construction sector. Holding a Certificate of Qualification as a Journeyman Electrician, Journeyman Plumber/Pipe Fitter and Journeyman Sheet Metal is considered an asset.Familiar with industry guidelines, ESA Code, TSSA Standards & appropriate CSA standardsAbility to recognize hazards as well as advise on appropriate safe work methodsAbility to understand technical drawings/systems The expected salary range for this role is between $70,000 - $85,000 per year. The starting salary will be determined based on several factors such as the successful candidate's qualifications, including but not limited to education and experience. Base pay is one component of Black & McDonald's total rewards package. Total rewards vary by position and may include additional offerings such as group insurance benefits, pension plan, annual discretionary bonus, career development programs, and other HR programs.
