**Job Title**: Lawyer (Family Law Preferred, Other Fields Considered) **Location**: Hybrid Remote - Ottawa, ON K2P 0C2 **Type**: Full-time/Part-time **Pay**: $48,000 - $120,000 per year **Hours**: 10 - 35 hours per week (based upon the amount of work you want to take on) **Overview**: Home Counsel Legal Services (HCLS) is seeking lawyers, ideally with a focus in Family and Child Protection Law, to join our growing team. We offer a turn-key practice management solution, providing the resources you need to focus on what matters most—the clients. Lawyers in other fields (e.g., criminal, employment, or wills & estate law) are also encouraged to apply, provided they can practice independently and have a track record of doing so. **Key Responsibilities**: - Provide legal representation and advice, with a focus on Family Law (open to other practice areas) - Negotiate settlements and advocate on behalf of clients - Draft legal documents such as parenting agreements, settlement offers, and pleadings - Conduct legal research using tools like Lexis-Nexis - Maintain accurate and up-to-date case files - Represent clients in court as necessary **What We Offer**: - Work from home (except for court appearances and in-person client meetings) - Flexible, set-your-own-schedule work arrangement (this is a "get the job done" setting, not a "9 to 5") - Support with legal resources, allowing you to focus on client outcomes - An attractive commission-based pay structure, with the potential to earn a retention bonus based on your years of practice **Qualifications**: - J.D. or LL.B. degree from an accredited law school - Admitted to the Ontario Bar and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario - Roster member of Legal Aid Ontario in Family & CYFSA matters (mandatory). - Strong proficiency in legal research, drafting, and courtroom representation - Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal - Ability to work independently and manage client relationships effectively **Compensation & Benefits**: - **Pay**: $48,000 - $120,000/year (based on billable hours and your own personal targets) - **Commission pay**: Earn a percentage of your billable hours - **Retention bonus**: Increase your retained percentage based on years of practice - **Work schedule**: Monday to Friday (there are no "clock-in / clock-out" times, set your own schedule) **Why Join HCLS?** At HCLS, we value autonomy and flexibility.
