ReVital Polymers Inc. is seeking a **Health, Safety, & Environmental Specialist** for its Sarnia, Ontario facility. **Summary of Position**:
The Health, Safety & Environmental Specialist is responsible for providing operational support for all Health and Safety requirements of the company. This individual will work closely with the Operations Manager and the HR Manager to ensure that the Health and Safety program is promoted and maintained, compliance to industry and regulatory requirements are met, and that all Health, Safety and Environmental training standards are adhered to in a timely manner.
**Primary Responsibilities**:
- Ensure the company’s Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) program is up to date, promoted to all impacted individuals, and enforced.
- Conduct regulatory compliance reviews, general risk assessments, and other safety assessments to support Health, Safety and Environmental management.
- Maintain required/relevant HSE logs and documentation.
- Assist in the development, revision, and maintenance of policies, procedures, forms, and documents related to ReVital’s HSE program
- Represent the company on all HSE matters
- Communicate knowledge of safety trends, MOL/TSD activities, and other relevant information to appropriate staff and sub trades.
- Coordinate/Conduct safety talks, site inspections, and other H/S meetings as required.
- Scheduling H/S training for all staff.
- Preparing reports and statistical analysis to support the HSE management system.
- Provide assistance and expert advice on HSE issues; make recommendations to facility management.
- Participate in regular inspections of all workplace locations; including construction/contractor worksites; ensuring that all compliance is met, and any deficiencies corrected.
- Participate and manage detailed incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis
- Follow-up on all injuries, near misses, and hazards; and work with the Operations Manager, Human Resources Manager, and Site Director, to review feedback and develop corrective actions.
- Assist in managing WSIB claims.
- Facilitate Return to Work for injured employees, including implementing modified duties based on medical restrictions.
- Assess and address ergonomic issues to prevent workplace injuries.
- Recommend changes to workstations and processes to improve employee well-being.
- Promote incident prevention for the benefit of employees, contractors, visitors.
- Oversee the handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Ensure that proper safety protocols are in place for working with hazardous substances
- Monitor and assess the environmental impact of the organization's activities.
- Develop and implement programs to minimize the organization's environmental footprint.
- Pre-qualify contractors and support site contract managers in managing contractors/visitors.
- Maintain business continuity and emergency management plans and procedures.
- Organize and conduct all safety related meetings including Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) and site project meetings. Prepare agendas, meeting minutes, and other documentation as required.
- Manage and maintain ReVital’s H/S Training Program by ensuring minimum training standards have been established and met for all staff including the tracking and administration of employee safety training certificates.
- Walk the manufacturing floor on a regular basis to establish HSE presence and provide support.
- Conduct daily and monthly HSE Meetings/Trainings and schedule as needed.
- Write, implement, and manage HSE Programs, Policies and Procedures
- Enforce compliance of Regulatory requirements (i.e., OHSA, EPA, etc.), including company HSE policies and procedures.
- Perform Storm Water / Wastewater Discharge sampling and document events
- Manage and coordinate emergency response protocols and procedures
- Oversee, administer, and manage Behavior Based / Observation Safety Programs.
- Help develop and support Job Safety Analysis (JHA) policies and procedures.
- Manage and administer the Fall Protection program, inspect all fall protection equipment, and maintain inspection records and other similar/related duties/responsibilities.
