Mission, Canada RFS Inc. Full time

We are a CARF accredited agency seeking a live-in youth caregiver for our staffed group homes.
We are looking for self-motivated, enthusiastic individuals who want to connect with young people and help them reach their goals.

You must be able to pass an extensive background check. If you have lived outside of Canada, we must obtain a background check from each country you have resided in. If you have resided outside of British Columbia for more than 6 months since the age of 18, you will need to provide addresses. Victoria is currently taking 4-6 weeks to process background checks for us.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provide companionship/mentorship and emotional support
- Help with meal preparation and medication administration
- Perform housekeeping tasks
- Accompany clients to appointments and social outings
- Monitor and report changes in client's health or behaviour
- daily documentation
- engage with the youth on a deeper level beyond just the basics/surface; take an active interest in them and try to identify their strengths and abilities
- engage with agency training opportunities

**Experience**:

- Previous experience in caregiving or a related field is preferred, or familiarity with the child protection system generally
- Ability to educate and engage with clients effectively
- Experience working with teens is a plus

While on shift, meals and fuel are covered.
You will be overseeing basic life skills such as budgeting, cooking basic meals, personal hygiene, etc. You will transport to appointments and school.

We operate homes in various locations across the Fraser Valley. Staff must be available for all locations in the event of need, but we aim to keep you at one location. Our current opening is for a house in Mission. We also have homes in Chilliwack and Abbotsford.

Many of our youth have experienced trauma and the position may entail working with individuals with mental health diagnoses, those involved with drug use/street life, and other circumstances. It would be an asset if you understand the differences between a foster home and a group home or other types of residential care.

Our shift rotation is three-days-on (72 hours) followed by three-days-off (72 hours) and continues forward on this pattern. You have 15-16 days off per month, depending on the month.

**Requirements**:

- Valid DL and personal vehicle with insurance in your own name
- Drivers abstract
- Criminal record search showing no offences involving youth or vulnerable groups
- First aid is required. If you do not have current first aid, you will need to take it within 3 months of hire.
