Newcomer Connections is a key pillar within the YMCA family. **The Opportunity**:
In 2019, the Newcomer Employment Champions Program [NEC] was developed by the Employment and Training Working Group of the Saint John Local Immigration Partnership (LIP) to help address employers’ concerns regarding hiring, onboarding and retaining newcomers. In 2021, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the LIP wants to ensure this well-developed program has the opportunity to grow and thrive. Funded by WorkingNB, Y Newcomer Connections will take on the continuity of this project.
The NEC Program provides guidelines, best practices and toolkits for employers. The program includes 4 components:
- Training
- Counselling
- Recognition
- Marketing and Awareness
During the course of the contract the Project Coordinator will be responsible for project and event planning and coordination, and coordinating with project participants. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a growing organization that is making a meaningful change for immigrants in New Brunswick.
The Project Coordinator reports directly to the Manager of Newcomer Programming at the YMCA of Greater Saint John. This position works closely with all Y Newcomer Connections staff to foster and maintain external relationships and build capacity in the community to train and hire newcomers. This position also contributes to the strategic mandate of the YMCA of Greater Saint John, particularly with respect to initiatives around employment supports and around Diversity and Social Inclusion (DSI).
**Skills and Qualifications**:
- Minimum 2 years relevant experience (business analyst/consultant/coaching/project coordination/management);
- Degree in Social Sciences, Business / Administration, Human Resources, and /or recognized Communications/Public Relations related studies or equivalent
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English required; French an asset;
- Strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, analytical skills and attention to detail is necessary;
- Can demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness, and problem-solving skills;
- Can work independently and as part of a team;
- Experience developing and delivering HR training sessions in person and/or online
- Flexible, outgoing and prepared to take on new tasks;
- Knowledge of regional business community and Greater Saint John Region Labour Market
- Experience with Microsoft 365 suite and Training Development and Management Software (Zoom, Thinkific, Articulate, H5P, etc.) and eager to learn new technology as needed).
**Responsibilities**
- Preparation of project materials;
- Oversees development of online training modules as required by the project;
- Recruitment, screening and selection of participants;
- Participant case management including problem solving, tracking and recording progress and results;
- Coordination of all training and participant workshops with appropriate partners (PETL, YMCA, NBMC, WIC working group);
- Facilitate and work closely with Working NB in a Case Conference model;
- Coordinate details and logistics for meetings, which may include note taking and follow up;
- Work with project budget and ensure it is adhered to;
- In collaboration with the Employment Team, coordinate employer outreach with employer organizations, sector councils, community partners and employers;
- Assist with securing sponsorship, including drafting and managing correspondence with potential sponsors;
- Support general YMCA operations, including assistance with events, outreach, and projects when necessary;
