**HUMAN RIGHTS AND EQUITY ADVISOR**

**FULL TIME CONTRACT POSITION
**This is a two-year contract position with the possibility of becoming**
**permanent depending on government funding.**

Lakehead District School Board (LDSB) serves communities in the district of
Thunder Bay and Armstrong with 22 elementary schools, three secondary_ _schools
and adult education and several alternative learning sites. Lakehead District
School Board serves approximately 9240 Kindergarten to Grade 12 students, with
another approximately 1700 adult learning students and approximately 2125 staff.

Lakehead District School Board is seeking a Human Rights and Equity Advisor who will
work with system leaders and communities to further develop, implement, and
communicate a comprehensive Human Rights and Equity Strategy, which fosters
cultures of respect for human rights and equity. Reporting to the director of education,
senior team.

This is a shared position between two school boards. The position will be based out

of LDSB and will provide services to Superior-Greenstone DSB.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate in a human rights/equity related

discipline, humanities, or social sciences or a clearly demonstrated

equivalent work-related experience; and/or
- post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate in an Indigenous Inherent

Rights Discipline or a clearly demonstrated equivalent work-related

experience;
- superior understanding of Ontario Human Right and Indigenous Rights case

law, the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (as it relates to the

Workplace Harassment, the Education Act and regulations) and associated

legislation, regulations and policies related to human rights and equity;
- knowledge of Ontario’s publicly funded schools and education employment

- extensive managerial and professional experience at a senior level and the

ability to manage in a complex and diverse environment;
- excellent skills and experience in interpersonal, communications (written and

oral), problem-solving skills, strong data analysis skills, sound judgement and

sensitivity, broad understanding and an inclusive approach to building

consensus, solving problems and relationship building;
- experience handling contentious issues with sensitivity, confidentiality and

discretion, and the ability to diffuse escalating situations and put people at

ease;
- strong cultural awareness and demonstrated commitment to working in a

diverse school community and/or work environment; and
- demonstrated track record of successful partnerships with First Nations,

Métis and Inuit individuals, actions, and communities.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- build/maintain networks of support for human rights and equity across the

school boards and in school communities;
- work with system leaders within the boards to develop a comprehensive

human rights and equity strategy focused on the development and

implementation of a board-level system response to promote human rights

and equity and appropriately address human rights issues;
- work collaboratively with the director, human resources staff and

superintendents to develop and provide human rights and equity guidance

and support as well as provide training to staff, including workplace

harassment and violence training;
- support and provide leadership for initiatives relating to equity and human

rights, including, but not limited to, identity-based data collection, culturally

responsive and relevant pedagogy, etc.;
- work collaboratively with schools by providing equity-related support to

students, parents and school board staff;
- collaborate with local Indigenous and equity-seeking communities;
- support the collection of data and information on Board human rights and

equity activities, trends and finds; and
- provide leadership in policy development and review to ensure human rights

and equity compliance.

Travel within the jurisdiction of the Superior-Greenstone DSB will be required.
