As the Issue Strategist, you will work within the Anti-Racism Program to support the advancement of racial equity and the implementation of The City's Anti-Racism Strategic Plan. You will be pivotal in facilitating transformative systemic change initiatives within the community and/or the organization. You will accomplish this by identifying, researching, analyzing, and recommending actions to address systemic racism, racial inequity, and racial discrimination, from an intersectional lens. Primary duties include:

- Support the development and implementation of strategies, initiatives, and engagement processes promoting racial equity. Identify and assess emerging trends, issues and best practices in other municipalities, community organizations, and jurisdictions.
- Participate in community activities to build relationships and identify opportunities to advance anti-racism initiatives that contribute to the advancement of The City's Anti-Racism Strategic Plan. Develop and maintain ongoing positive community and corporate relationships.
- Provide strategic support to a wide range of groups, including but not limited to post-secondary institutions, community groups, and internal City business units to collectively advance racial equity.
- Provide expert knowledge and understanding on matters pertaining to the experiences of Indigenous, Black, and diverse Racialized peoples.
- Develop tools and processes that support corporate or community partners to identify, address, and remove racial inequities in City services, programs, and policies.
- Support the development of anti-racism and anti-hate learning opportunities including formal training, awareness initiatives, experiential learnings, communities of practice, and strategic discussions.
- Develop project timelines and implementation plans in collaboration with the Anti-Racism Program Management Team.

**Qualifications**
- A degree in Social Work, Education, Social Sciences, Public Administration, Political Science, Policy Development, or a related field and at least 5 years of related experience; OR a master's degree and at least 3 years of related experience.
- Lived experience as a member of an underrepresented community or experience working with and as an ally for persons from an underrepresented community is required.
- Demonstrated experience with business planning and implementation, along with practical experience with diverse types of governance models.
- Experience reviewing policies and writing reports, including Council reports will be considered an asset.
- Preference will be given to applicants with experience in the following areas: Anti-Racism learning and development; working on issues related to racial trauma, psychosocial wellbeing, and intergenerational trauma; and planning and developing processes for transformative community and staff engagement.
- Success in this position requires:

- A solid understanding of anti-racism, systemic racism, racial equity, strategy, and policy development and an understanding of systemic racism issues experienced by Indigenous, Black, and diverse Racialized communities.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, strategic planning and project management skills.
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to prioritize, build and maintain trusting relationships.
- Ability to negotiate and build consensus with interested parties and ability to influence without authority.
- Ability to understand, interpret and communicate complex information about systemic discrimination.
