The City of Abbotsford is currently seeking a self-motivated professional to join their dynamic team as a temporary full-time **Facility Maintenance Technician II** in our Operations Department. This position performs technical, building service, custodial and maintenance work which may vary according to recreation facility activities and requirements. Your thorough knowledge of materials, methods and practices used in pool and arena operations will assist you in pool maintenance and water chemistry; installing and maintaining ice; operating related equipment; performing minor maintenance and repair of machines, pumps and filters; performing minor construction, renovation and maintenance of recreation buildings, and ensuring building security along with performing custodial functions for the ice arena, swimming pool, public and multi-purpose areas.
**To be considered for this position, you must have**:
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
- Two years of experience in the operation and maintenance of ice-making equipment and refrigeration and pool filtration systems, or equivalent
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence
- Ice Facility Operator (IFO) Certificate OR Refrigeration Plant Operator Certificate or BC equivalent
- Level I and Level II Pool Operator’s Certificates from a recognized association or educational institute
Due to the nature of the job, you must be available to work a variety of shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays, and split shifts. You must also have the ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions including exposure to dust, high noise levels, ammonia, odours, chemicals and significant temperature fluctuation and be physically able to perform the essential duties of the position, including lifting and carrying items over 22.7kg.
This position is unionized, CUPE Local 774, and the hourly rate of pay is from $31.18 to $36.70 plus an additional 12.4% percent in lieu of benefits. At the City of Abbotsford, we work strongly to create a challenging yet rewarding environment for our employees to thrive.
