**About the role**:
The Human Resources Generalist is part of a closely-knit team of HR professionals across Canada and is a supporter of change, an advocate for employees and teams to thrive, and a champion of Mitacs’ values, vision, and behavioral competencies. The role is a business partner supporting all team members; they bring a deep understanding of Mitacs’s policies, the legal environment we operate in, and are always thinking about how to support and foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive culture in all our locations. This role's portfolio will include all employees in Eastern Canada and will work closely with the HRG in Western Canada as well as the HR Operations Manager.

**What we will expect from you**:

- Collaborate with team members to produce communication for employees
- Manage, maintain and collaborate with appropriate stakeholders to ensure accurate employee data in our HRIS, payroll system, and benefits platforms
- Manage arrival and departure process for employees including new hire and departure communications, delivering first day/first week orientation to new hires, coordinating quarterly corporate orientations, and conducting exit interviews
- Collaborate with team members to evolve onboarding processes to ensure effective engagement of new employees
- Lead the national Joint Health and Safety Committee
- Act as a first point of contact for all employees and managers in Eastern Canada for all HR-related requests, inquiries, and concerns and respond in a prompt and solutions-oriented manner
- Actively promote a safe workplace through participation in the national Joint Health & Safety Committee
- Partner with managers to develop and deliver employee engagement initiatives
- Support coordination of company-wide learning and development initiatives
- Support development, review, and revision of HR policies including the roll-out of a hybrid workplace policy
- Participate in special projects, committees, or working groups
- Contribute to continuous improvement and best practices to influence HR strategies
- Other duties as required.

**What you will bring to the role**:

- Degree or Diploma in Human Resources (or related field) coupled with at least two to three years’ work experience on a HR/People team
- Achieved or working towards the CPHR designation
- Proficiency with MS Office suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams
- Experience working within an HR function supporting employees located in multiple provinces
- Proven ability to exercise tact, discretion, and good judgment
- Strong communication and project management skills
- Bilingualism in English and French is an asset
