**Weekly Hours**:37.5 hours
**Duration**: up to 45 days

**Writer and Editor**

The Awards and Recognition Program recognizes deserving individuals and teams from within the client organization for outstanding achievements in advancing Defence Team Priorities.

Professional Services for a creative writer and editor is required for the writing of citations for a wide variety of awards and recognition areas as well as virtual shout-outs for the Defence Team Organization. Nominators creating submissions for various awards at times could also use the support of a professional writer to ensure that the complexity of the achievements are accurately portrayed in the nominations that go before various selection committees.

**Scope of Work**:
Tasks may include
- Assignments will be given to the writer/editor on a daily / weekly basis by the CARS team;
- The writer will estimate the time required to perform their work and will manage their schedule accordingly and in consultation with the Manager and or Senior Program Officer, CARS;
- Specific direction and deadlines will be provided to the writer to help manage their time;
- The writer must be creative and attentive to latest trends to ensure plain language as well as relevance to audiences;
- Citations for award nominations must promote the Defence Team as a leading organization and employer of choice;
- Support to tighten and summarize the nominations for the selection committee, as well as prepare text for the certificates and intranet;
- Writer must have knowledge and experience using Canadian style guide and Government of Canada communications guidelines;
- Contractor must have at least 2 years experience with executive writing and editing for senior management;
- On occasion, the writer may be asked to liaise with clients to develop necessary content and coordination between clients to ensure proper links to related material;
- Editing services must be conducted in a timely fashion and be conducted for the purpose of ensuring language quality control;
- Proofreading products created internally such as awards certificates or program booklets;
- Ensuring confidentiality with respect to organizational or client information and data;
- Some research may be needed.

**Deliverables**:

- The writer will work under the direct supervision of the Manager, CARS and the Senior Program Officer;
- Produced material will be verified by the CARS team and final products will be approved by the Manager, CARS and Director, DWPS.

**Qualifications -**
- The consultant must have a minimum combined 5 years of experience in professional services with executive writing and editing for senior management.
- The consultant must demonstrate a strong level of writing and written communication skills through the provision of two (2) sample products.
- The consultant must have a minimum combined 5 years of experience that demonstrates skills related to: interviewing, writing, summarizing, and editing. To be assessed based on the background (résumé) of the contractor(s) assigned to the work.
- Experience in providing professional writing services
- Demonstrates the ability to summarize text from long documents that will enable Senior Management to easily rate the strongest nominations
- Knowledge of Government of Canada communications guidelines and Canadian style guidelines
- Knowledge of the structure and organization of the Department of National Defence
