Reporting to the Manager, Labour Relations, the Labour Relations Specialist is responsible for providing labor relations advise to Osler managers, Human Resources (HR) business partners, senior labour relations specialists and HR staff as well as responding to inquiries from union representatives.
Accountabilities:
- Builds and manages positive working relationships with unions
- Attends labour management meetings
- Provides support to the Manager, Labour Relations, and senior labour relations specialists with research for collective bargaining
- Provides support during negotiations to include drafting and reviewing of negotiation documents, preparing reference documents for information meetings on changes and amendments to the collective agreements
- Attends and participates in contract conciliation meetings and arbitrations
- Compiles labour relations information for review and analysis by the Manager, Labour Relations, and senior labour relations specialists
- Researches arbitral case law as required to assist the Manager, Labour Relations, and/or senior labour relations specialists in developing responses to complex labour relations issues
- Provides advice on labour issues related to Step 2 grievance meetings
- Attends mediation, arbitration, Ontario Human Rights Tribunal and Labour Board proceedings to provide support
- Provides counseling and basic advice to managers and HR staff on labour relations matters
- Applies collective agreement provisions, hospital polices and employment legislation based on set precedents and past practices
- Contributes to the review, revision and implementation of labour relations policies and procedures
- Works with senior labour relations specialists in mapping out labour relations implications resulting from implementation of organizational restructuring, realignment and downsizing
**Qualifications**
- Degree in HR with a focus in (labour relations/industrial relations) or relevant and related experience
- Certified Human Resources Leader preferred
- Tact, diplomacy, mature judgment and the ability act appropriately in the face of adversity
- Strong problem solving skills
- Effective consultation and coaching skills
- Budgetary expertise (legal cost reconciliation; strategies to reduce legal costs)
- Strong business acumen combined with excellent client service skills
- Collaborative and interest-based approach to problem-solving
- Excellent oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills
- Demonstrated relationship-building skills and the ability to build trust at all levels of the organization
- Willingness to be flexible with working hours to suit operational realities
- Required to travel between three Osler sites

**Additional Information**
This is a Hybrid role: Roles that function remotely, but require essential, regular onsite weekly work
Annual Salary:
Minimum: $85,839.00
Maximum: $107,308.50
